Florida
It has been reported that 58000 absentee ballots have been "lost" in Florida

Does anyone know about this, and what is being done?

The story is that one Giselas Salas, who Jeb Bush appointed to the position of Supervisor of Elections in Broward County FL after forcing Miriam Oliphant from the office she was elected to, has no idea why approximately 58,000 absentee ballots due to be mailed out Oct 7-8 have not reached their recipients yet. Her explanation seems to be "I guess the USPS lost them".

ON EDIT: Ms. Salas is the Deputy Supervisor of Elections in Broward. Brenda Snipes was the Supervisor appointed to replace Oliphant.

5. Broward County
is densely populated and VERY Dem. The reason for the large number of absentee ballot requests there is primarily the Dems distrust of the new ballot machines in use there. Yeah, I'd say the vast majority of these lost ballot were addressed to Dems.

6. Can the voters who never received their ballots still vote in person?

7. Yes they can
And in fact they can go vote right now at one of the polling places opened for early voting. We can fight this loss of ballots by informing people of their right to vote even if the absentee ballot they requested does not show up.

That is the fear really. Many of those who haven't gotten their ballots do not KNOW they can vote anyway, just as you didn't. We here in Florida have to make sure they find out.

8. I hear we have already initiated several lawsuits in FL
Shouldn't we have waited until after the election? After all, we may win the state outright.

9. Not really
Most of the lawsuits initiated have to do with basic ballot access; obviously once the election has taken place it is too late for a resolution of those issues.

For example, in one lawsuit ongoing a court has ruled that 5 counties do NOT have to issue voting cards to some who registered but failed to check a box indicating they were US citizens. 4 of those counties are issuing cards anyway but one, Palm Beach County, is not. PBC is heavily Democratic and those being denied the right to vote are by most estimates 80% and up Democrats. The ruling does not end the matter but it is troubling and it MUST be pursued now, not after the election for obvious reasons.

11. Even though getting bush out is my #1 priority,
We also have to make sure that everyone has the right & the access to vote, win or lose.
