What happened to Air America Radio in New York?
Driving to work this morning, I had my radio tuned to 1190 AM to listen to "Morning Sedition" on Air America Radio. Instead, I heard something calling itself "Newstalk". It was definitely 1190 AM, but it also definitely was not "Morning Sedition." Has something happened to Air America Radio? Or to WLIB? Does anyone know what's going on? Thanks!

2. Which station did you check - 1190 in New York?
Maybe it's my radio getting interference from some other station?

4. Princeton, NJ area
It's tough enough getting WLIB down here normally. Maybe it's a really bad day for interference. I hope that's the case. I'll check later.

5. I live in CT and the only
station I can get Air America on is 1190 from New York. I get the same problem as you. Sometimes the interference is so bad I have to just shut it off or switch stations. In the afternoon on my way home I listen to Randi's show and its totally clear--no interference or static. I don't know what the problem is in the morning. I wish they were on a station that was more powerful. If I tune into 660 am to Imus, it sounds clear as a bell. I don't know what the problem is.

7. The problem is transmitter strength
660 AM (WFAN in New York) is a 50,000 watt clear-channel station (meaning there is no other station on that frequency in the entire eastern half of the United States). 1190 AM has a much weaker transmitter, and there are other stations broadcasting on that frequency - as I found out to my distress this morning!

9. Ah, I see now.
Didn't understand too well how that worked. Now I know why I get that other station interrupting all the time when I listen in the morning.

One of those odd radio propagation things.

10. Strange things like that have happened....
A friend of mine, in Pittsburgh, was flipping arounfd the AM dial, and started getting one of the NYC news stations from over 450 miles away.

Strange, since it never happened again after that...

11. With a good receiver, it happens routinely on AM...
...after dark.

I used to listen to Sox games on the Outer Capes of North Carolina on the car radio, and there are a few nights per year when I can get AM radio from Ireland here in Maine.

Thank or blame the ionosphere....

13. I Get To Listen For the First Few minutes Of My Commute
Then it eventually starts sounding like aliens are sending secret signals. I try in vain to make out what they're saying and hopefully make it at least until Wayne Gilman(?) at the top of the hour.
