Help me with my reasoning on voter fraud?
As we have seen, many Republicans have their undies in a knot over potential Democratic fraud, and so they're wanting to keep an eye on the process come election day. Democrats of course feel the same way, but the precedent is there for us (see Florida 2000).

I am beginning to wonder if maybe fraud won't be an *actual* issue this year? I mean, if Repuke leadership knew they had it in the bag, why would they be stirring up their field troops to increase the oversight of this election? I'd think they would want as few witnesses as possible!

No, I'm thinking that rather than preparing to steal the election again, they are preparing themselves for what looks like a Kerry victory. They'll have enough voices planted all around that they will create an uproar that the Democrats MUST have cheated, thus questioning the legitimacy of Kerry's victory.

I don't know if that will work - it certainly would, if the media continues to be as Bush-friendly as it has been the past 4 years.

What do you all think?

1. They've been acting like it's a Kerry win
If it's by a razor thin margin, they'll try the fraud thing. I suspect Kerry will be in a comfort zone, though.

2. I think you're partly right
on their motives, but I see the main point is to simply throw the whorish media off any scrutiny of their CRIMINAL ACTIVITIES. The RNC talking points this week all say "see what the Democrats are doing? They're bad too!"

At face value, their argument equates to "two wrongs = a right," (so much for moral absolutism).

But given that they are (cue Jon Lovitz) LIARS! this all amounts to them saying "Look over there!" and going right on with their disenfranchisement programme.

On a related note, what the hell has to happen before to get people riled up enough to make this front-page news! I've been hording torches and pitchforks for a year now.

3. The reality is poor people move a lot and
in poor neighborhoods with predominantly multifamily rentals the mailbox/doorbell situation is mostly unlabeled. Undeliverable mail is the basis of their fraud claims.

That is the talking point that happens to be true.

A lot of poor people "stay" with a series of friends and family.

4. Same as 2002
Which worked beautifully. There was SOME effort to counter GOP cheating but not like this year at all. The noise machine went into scream mode over any instance of suspicious Democratic misbehavior, pre-empting any accusations by our side. Vote watch sites were flooded with trolls reporting on DEMOCRATIC fraud!

The margin was kept murky, no exit polls. The margin of GOP victory was suspiciously larger than expected in all the usual places, but the Dems were cowed, sideswiped.

That is what they are hoping for. That by screaming "you too" "no, you are" they at least give the impression it all just cancels out. That enables them to carry out their massive ops, especially surprises.

Your worry actually stems from misinterpreting the status of that strategy. It is being beaten into the ground this time, not just countered by a bunch of observers. It is all about intimidation which at least works wonders with the spineless media.

The intimidation is not working- so far.

They have to try to pad their edge or they will get swamped. Before Kerry they were planning on doing it anyway to create a "mandate". How long ago was that maniacal dream! Without the big money and the fraud, the GOP is a paper tiger and their media cheerleaders would collapse along with the power.

Maintain teeth in throat of enemy. Work hard. Apparently winning is a new experience for some. Just enjoy the ride.

5. they are so brazen and arrogance
a reality. the quality of who they are as people and their decision making. making a decision from that view allows them to think they can do it. they did do it in 2000, 2002 and got away with it. how many republicans do you hear challenging them. this is what i am going to say to republicans, why are you not saying something. you know better

but what changes this mix and why we are seeing what we are. the dems, kerry knows how to fight and battle. and that is what he has done thru out this campaign. the warrior kerry, the dude that gives me hope for iraq mess.

he isnt rolling over. we saw giving up was not for the good of our country four years ago.

remember clinton and the division, gore and dems said we will take the higher road here, lol lol. learned our lesson, wink.

we can draw a sword too, jsut would prefer to solve problems with maturity.
