OK, who else is just gonna be a nervous wreck until November 2?
I've felt like hell all this week and I'm not sleeping well. I also seem to be having some trouble concentrating on anything but the election. Yesterday I had to tell Liza to "put the poll down and step away from the monitor" because she was so worked up about the Gallup thing.

I dunno how Kerry is staying calm through all this. I'm gonna be really friggin' glad when it's all over, because I'm not going to be much good to anyone until then.

What I wonder about is what we're going to see Team Bush do in the next week--not because they have planned anything, but because we know that Bush doesn't handle pressure very well. Will there be a public meltdown? WHo knows?

Is it November yet?

Yeesh,

The Plaid Adder

My finger joints are aching, which happens sometimes when I'm stressed (not sure why, exactly)

And I've got a paper due Friday, which I haven't started.

Trouble concentrating...nooo...why do you ask? :D

48. I hear you.
I hate to say it, but last night I even looked up the rules of succession as they apply to the president elect. The scary part is, if Kerry is (god save us) assassinated after the election but before the Electoral College meets in December to seal their votes, the rules of succession DO NOT APPLY. John Edwards would not become president. Instead the Electoral College would be given complete discretion as to who to appoint. If Kerry was killed in a terrorist attack, it's completely conceivable they would re-select Bush.

Yeah, it's a crazy scenario, but after the past few years, I don't take our democracy for granted anymore. Like you, I won't rest until he's safely seated in the Oval Office with the ex-president's helicopter receding in the background.

20. Shirt logo observation.
I should note that support for Kerry in Texas is greater than it is in the Mid-West plains states such as Nebraska. Kerry is running 39%-40% here, while only 25% in Nebraska. So maybe that T-Shirt logo should be tweeked. :)

17. I'm quite nervous and anxious
but in a good way. I have a feeling we are going to win big.
The only thing that troubles me is the prospect of a very close election and the resulting chaos that could ensue. However, the reports of huge numbers of new Democratic voter registrations and big turnout for early voting here in GA bode well for Democrats.

9. Not just until Nov. 2
This is not going to be over until long after it's over. The Republicans will never accept a loss, if that's the result on the day. They'll keep fighting and fighting and fighting, they'll use every dirty scummy trick they can devise. I hope the Democrats are strong enough - and funded enough - to persevere. I'm sure Kerry has the stomach for the fight, but I hope he has the support.

if it's obviously that Kerry 'really' won, I'll feel better even if the REpublicans don't concede--which I seriously doubt they will. One thing I can say Kerry has going for him is that I am fully confident that he wants to fight these thieving ratbastards even more than I do.

40. He's been AWOL from Page 2...But there is this bit of fear and loathing...

Fear and Loathing, Campaign 2004

Dr. Hunter S. Thompson sounds off on the fun-hogs in the passing lane

By DR. HUNTER S. THOMPSON

Armageddon came early for George Bush this year, and he was not ready for it. His long-awaited showdowns with my man John Kerry turned into a series of horrible embarrassments that cracked his nerve and demoralized his closest campaign advisers. They knew he would never recover, no matter how many votes they could steal for him in Florida, where the presidential debates were closely watched and widely celebrated by millions of Kerry supporters who suddenly had reason to feel like winners.
Kerry came into October as a five-point underdog with almost no chance of winning three out of three rigged confrontations with a treacherous little freak like George Bush. But the debates are over now, and the victor was clearly John Kerry every time. He steamrollered Bush and left him for roadkill.

Did you see Bush on TV, trying to debate? Jesus, he talked like a donkey with no brains at all. The tide turned early, in Coral Gables, when Bush went belly up less than halfway through his first bout with Kerry, who hammered poor George into jelly. It was pitiful. . . . I almost felt sorry for him, until I heard someone call him "Mister President," and then I felt ashamed.

Karl Rove, the president's political wizard, felt even worse. There is angst in the heart of Texas today, and panic in the bowels of the White House. Rove has a nasty little problem, and its name is George Bush. The president failed miserably from the instant he got onstage with John Kerry. He looked weak and dumb. Kerry beat him like a gong in Coral Gables, then again in St. Louis and Tempe -- and that is Rove's problem: His candidate is a weak-minded frat boy who cracks under pressure in front of 60 million voters.

15. Relax, we have months to go. :)
I realize that no mater what the "result" will be election night, we won't know the "verdict" for weeks.

With all this issues of rampant voter fraud at the polls, machine errors, votes that weren't counted, voters not allowed to vote, more "punchcard" issues in poor voting districts, uncounted "provisionary ballots" because people didn't vote in the correct precinct, etc, no matter what the result, we'll still have a way to go till the outcome is known :(

24. I've been a basket case since the conventions
My mind just can't seem to reconcile Bushco's utter failure at everything with their seeming popularity. It's like trying to accept two competing realities at once. Sometimes i feel like I'm going to explode. I hope I'll be able to put it behind me by Nov. 3, regardless of the outcome.

I just got off the phone with my older sister, with whom I've never talked politics but suspected she might be a Democrat (she lives in MA). I hesitantly brought up the subject of the election and she began trashing Kerry and praising Chimpy. I thought I was going to pass out. As calmly as I could, I mentioned a couple of the millions of reasons not to vote for the Chimp, but zombie-like she rattled off, "yes, but we shouldn't switch in the middle of a war. . . Kerry's too much of a flip-flopper . . .you're paying too much attention to the liberal media. . ." etc. etc. I love her and didn't want to get into a shouting match so I cut off the call.

This has been happening a lot lately -- if I find out someone is supporting Chimpy, I go ballistic. I have no perspective. Aaarrrrggghhh!!!

I'm constantly in these forums and others, probably at this point to my own detriment. I should be working!

I am realizing that my personal lack of energy, not quite depression, has really only been over the last 2 years and I'm hoping for it to start to lift next week. I did feel euphoria after watching the first debate.

The hard part now is knowing that we in Washington state are in the Kerry column and so many states keep swaying daily. It almost seems like complete random chance which way the wind will blow on election day, and I'd like to see Kerry get 53% or more to prove some what of a 'mandate' to the nation and get beyond partisan bickering. I fear laywers and the SCOTUS will be involved if it is close. I really don't want more days or weeks of this gut-wrenching feeling!

I don't have any trouble studying for my paralegal and tax classes (nothing like a few Sched D's and depreciation worksheets to get my brain all in a twist). 33. Try living in a swing state
I'm sure Minnesota is going to go Kerry--after all, we went for Mondale in 84, but it's been nerve wracking watching the daily polls go up and down. Not to mention the fact we have a repuke governor and Sec. of state who are highly motivated to see Boosh "win."

The way this has most affected me personally is I have lost my sense of humor about this election. I had to tell friends to stop sending me stupid jokes about Kerry or Clinton because I am concerned someone on their email distribution list would be tempted to vote Boosh because of some stupid joke. Irrational, but that just shows how bad this has affected me. I'm finding it almost impossible to stay centered because of my own anxiety plus that of those around me.

I'll be glad when this is over. I'm focusing on finishing up halloween costumes for my grandkids and am staying away from TV news and the polls. I'm doing my best to promote Kerry to other people but have a hair-trigger temper when it comes to Boosh supporters right now.
