DES MOINES, Iowa -- The Iowa caucuses are too close to call, according to a poll released Thursday by a Des Moines television station.

Results of an exclusive KCCI-TV poll released Thursday show Howard Dean is leading among Iowa Democrats, but only by one percentage point. With a 4 percent margin of error in the survey, the Iowa caucus has become a four-way race.

And Dean's competitors have gained ground.

Out of 607 Iowans surveyed this week, the former Vermont governor has support from 22 percent of Democratic caucus voters -- that is down 7 percent from a KCCI poll taken just one week ago.

Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts is right behind Dean at 21 percent, and U.S. Rep. Richard Gephardt of Missouri and Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina are tied at 18 percent.

I wonder if the Gephardt supporters will rally around Kerry.
That would be an interesting development. I haven't seen Gephardt below the 20% line in a while.

6. ...or Edwards
Gephardt and Edwards share a working class background. It really is impossible to predict right now...

4. too close to call, absolutely
but I sure do like Edwards' campaign style going into this as it plays to Iowan sensibilities.

If we can expect more of the same vitriol from some of the others, it plays into his hand quite well. Its clear that many people are saying 'enough is enough'.

Go Edwards !

5. I agree
The more I look at Edwards the more I like him.

On the other hand my conservative friends like him pretty well as well, so not sure what that means.

8. Braun Endorsement May Hurt Dean in Iowa
Surprisingly, the new Research 2000 poll today shows that while Carol Mosely Braun has a 11% approval rating in Iowa, she has a 28% disapproval rating. There would seem to be some latent racism and/or sexism reflected in that disapproval rating. It does, however, raise the question of whether her endorsement may hurt Dean in Iowa.

9. I don't think so
and I would hope not. I'm happy for endorsement anyway and if some bigots want to hold it against a candidate and support someone other than Dean because of it then they can have him.
