“Acid is Cool. Kill the Pigs!” (observation about Terror Tapes as a genre)
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 12:42 PM by troublemaker
To me the phrase “Acid is cool, kill the pigs” is shorthand for a common but tricky-to-describe concept, sort of like “arms race” or “revolution of rising expectations.”

There was a family hacked to death a long time ago. The Dad was found with 70 stab wounds, but still breathing. He survived. He said that a Manson-style hippie murder cult had killed his family. It was a famous case (made for TV movie, bestselling book, etc.)

Even though my home state was abuzz for weeks about these killers on the loose I knew from the start the guy had killed his own family (which he had) because he told police that the killers had chanted, “acid is cool, kill the Pigs!”

No self-respecting hippie kill-cult chants “acid is cool.” (“acid is cool” is very un-cool) But that’s what a crazy middle-aged professional who watches too many Dragnet episodes and Manson family news stories probably THINKS a hippie kill-cult would be chanting.

So if there are some weirdly “on message” terrorist talking points in this ABC video like “we hate freedom” or complaints about us “bringing democracy to Iraq,” I'll be shaking my head and sighing "acid is cool..."

2. Hey, what good are enemies if you can't blame stuff on them?

But seriously, I do find the "translations" from Arabic that
we get all the time amusing.

3. are you, by any chance,
referring to the Jeffrey McDonald murder case that was written about by Joe McGinnis in "Fatal Vision?"
I remember the whole "acid is cool" thing -

6. Yeah. I omitted the particulars because I didn't want to prompt a
"was Jeffery McDonald guilty?" thread. I don't know if he still has defenders today. He used to have a lot of defenders. (Even Joe McGinnis thought McDonald was innocent when he started the book.)

4. Jeffrey McDonald
Edited on Wed Oct-27-04 12:59 PM by Monica_L
Army doctor IIRC. He had only one shallow stab wound in a very non lethal location but his wife and daughters were pretty hacked up. I read an interesting article about him. Some psychiatrist got McDonald's audio tapes that he recorded in jail and the transcript and gave them to his students and they all came up with a profile of a narcissistic abuser.

He also said something very chilling about the murderer: McDonald claimed there were three white ones and a black one who couldn't be seen. McDonald killed his wife and two daughters (white ones) and his unborn son (black one).

The actual quote I think was "acid is groovy" even more blatant. I know what you mean though about them trying to imagine what terrorists think and what their motivations are :eyes: versus reality.

5. he had a zillion stab wounds, but only one in a life-threatening location
and that was a slip-up on his part. He went too deep and almost bled to death.

Placing all those flesh wounds has to be one of the more unusual applications of a medical education ever! Reminds me of Hannibal Lecters "wound man" doll.

or the crime library web site.

MacDonald's wounds were relatively minor and as police searched the house he told them what he could recall. According to him, he'd been sleeping on the living room couch when Colette's cries woke him. Three men and a woman were standing in the living room, dressed like hippies and chanting, "Acid is groovykill the pigs."

9. I'm sorry you don't understand it. It's quite on point
As you may or may not have noticed this campaign is about to enter a news cycle dominated by some bogus "terror warning" tape.
