Poll question: Have you read the new GD:2004 Primary forum rules?
I was under the impression that if I gave people a "interrupt page" with a red stop sign, then members might actually read the rules. The whole point is to make it *clear* that everyone has been made aware of the new rules before they post. There is even a button which says "I have read the rules and I agree to abide by them."

In case it's not clear: You are expected to know and follow the rules. And if you don't know these rules, there is a good chance that you'll get your posts deleted, and you probably get locked out of this forum.

So, have you read the new rules for this forum?

4. BTW.. I like the interrupt page
It prevents the excuse of not remembering what forum you are in. Also, it gives me that half-a-second extra to cool down and makes me reconsider what I was about to post.

I expect I'm still going to get zapped once in awhile, but it will clearly be all my fault.

I'm going to let this float.

Not on purpose though. I disagree with thread I posted being pulled, but I'm not all bent out of shape about it.

15. Certainly, Sir, I Have
It looks like they will serve the turn, with benefit to the blood pressure for all....

Regarding the small coterie of self-identified rejectionists, all that can be said is "Let ten thousand flowers bloom! Let one hundred schools of thought contend!"

"LET'S GO GET THOSE BUSH BASTARDS!"

18. "benefit to the blood pressure for all"
I hope that it helps. It certainly has not helped my blood pressure. But I'm slowly learning that I should not expect a moment's peace between now and the time when we have a nominee.

19. Read about 10 times now,
so I finally went and turned off the interrupt page. I'll go back to it about once every two weeks like I've been with the other rules just to watch or changes or updates.

23. The Biggest Difference
3. Posts about the "messenger" rather than "message" are categorically forbidden in the GD: 2004 Primary forum. You may not make any statement whatsoever about another member of this message board, unless it is unambiguously positive. You may not post anything that is insulting or rude to any other member, even if it is extremely mild.

It will be interesting to see how this new(?) rule improves the climate.

Some of us won't be feeling any peace until the nominee is chosen either ..

26. Skinner... do you have any sense if
if the rate of giving warnings being given has gone up or down since implementing these rules yesterday?

I could see it going either way. Scenario 1) folks just can't help the compulsion.... so ignore the new rules... the quicker trigger = more warnings. Scenario 2) due to the quicker trigger rules folks begin to watch their words more carefully.

Any pattern emerging?

27. It's too early to tell.
But I can tell you this: It is clear that we have people that fall into both scenarios you describe. Most people seem to be able to act in a relatively civil manner no matter what we do. And there are some people who have a record of problems who actually seem to be changing their behavior because of this. But there are slso people who can't help themselves, or can't help testing the rules. They seem driven by a desire to figure out how they can be rude without running afoul of the rules. They are finding out, to their dismay, that there isn't much they can do.

31. Read the Rules, Skinner. And I Support the Rules.
The DemocraticUnderground is so liberal with its policies that no one should have any argument with them. The few "rules" here are most sensible and fundamental and have my full support.

36. You can stick your rules where the sun don't shine!
Why would you read the rules? Its like reading a syllabus in HS, a waste of time.

Now if i am warned, yes i will read the rules, but untill then i'll just treat everyone else how i've always treated them.
