3. lol...nice response...
but the question is probably a very serious one. Are there any dem-oriented sites with real time chat?

7. Very ....
Edited on Sat Oct-30-04 11:36 PM by RoyGBiv
Shortly after entering a live chat room earlier this evening, which was advertised as a Democratic forum, I got a string of attempted hits to my IP. I don't know that the two are related, but the timing is curious.

9. Trying to broker a truce
Speedy denies trying to hack you. I think his chatroom is legit. Perhaps you could un-ban him here if he agrees not to spam the board with his url. I haven't seen any unusual activity on my firewall, and he stopped randomly kickbanning people after the freeper trolls died out.

10. Not saying it was him ...
Said it was curious.

In order to avoid any misunderstandings, I have been doing some work on a backtrace, and I did find the actual source of the attack. Now, I don't know where Speedy is exactly, but I doubt it was him based on what I did find. However, being on IRC at all can result in this kind of thing, meaning others could have been monitoring the room and gathering IPs to attack.

Luckily, my system is pretty well armored, not invulnerable of course, but it'll take more than what's been thrown at me so far. And, I have tools to combat it and have it prosecuted as well if something malicious does happen.

In any case, I'm not real concerned with what "Speedy" denies or claims. Perhaps his room is legit. I only know I've visted several chat rooms run by DUers recently, and in none of them did this kind of thing take place. If it were just me it happened to, that'd be one thing, but it wasn't. I know that he lied about me personally and broke DU rules in various ways. That is what it is. Perhaps he should think a bit before doing something like what he did to me and other DUers and to DU itself this evening.

Now, finally, I am not a moderator of course and so have absolutely no control over any of this. So, any appeals to me or the others that were subjected to the same kind of treatment are pretty pointless. The mods took care of things based on DU rules.

8. The good chats on IRC are mixed, politically.
The Undernet channels that have a decent mix are #political, #USpolitics and #newsgarden. There are other, smaller channels, but these are the bigger ones on Undernet. They're English speaking chats, but draw a crowd from around the globe.

For a totally left leaning chat, try http://www.bartcop.com . The instructions are on his page. That channel is small, and usually active only in the evening, US time.

All of these require a chat client, like mIRC, PIRCH, Chatzilla, or any of a dozen other clients. Any reliable downloading site will have several chat clients, or you can go to the granddaddy of them all at http://www.mirc.com. The registration fee falls into the nominal category, and free updates seemingly are forever. Plus, Khaled (the author) periodically donates registration fees to charity.

This forum is great for expressing fully developed ideas. For chat in real time, bouncing ideas off real folks, you can't beat the IRC channels.
