Odd day at the GOTV
Looking good this weekend. The phone banks were full, even later on a Saturday, and many people are braving the weather to do lit drops.

We had a t-shirt printed up that says "Vote Kerry" on the front and Milwaukee GOTV team 04 on the back. Seeing that last night, I came back this morning to get a couple. While I was waiting for them to show up, we had a visitor.

A guy in a van with an aborted fetus picture plastered on side and pro-life messages all over it. The crew said he'd been around the day before too. We blocked his way from coming in (hell, even the volunteers couldn't park in the parking lot as it was too full) Someone went and got the LGBT rainbow banner we have that is 10 feet wide and we stood in front of the van with it.

One of the staff said that sign was quite effective. One of the guys in the van shouted out the day before "You're not really gay, are you?" to which the staffer replied "I sure am, and I'll turn you gay too if you come any closer." Bye bye van guy.

After that excitement, I got my t-shirt and left. Later this evening, I went to a Laurie Anderson concert with the ex-boyfriend. He's been getting increasingly angry at Bush (kicked up a notch by the re-release of F 9/11) to the point where he laughed when I told him about a swasticka painted in a Bush supporters yard. He said he shouldn't laugh, but his pet name for them is "Nazi" so he found that sentiment appropriate. He was a Nader supporter in 2000. Now if he can just get registered and vote at the poll without waiting 3 hourse like last time...

Laurie had many things in her concert about Bush and the war. She talked about how confused we were that the terrorists hate us. She said it was like the pretty girl in school saying "you hate me because I'm pretty" to which she would answer, "No, we hate you because you're a JERK." Very interesting take on things as usual.

Tomorrow, I see John Kerry for the first time in person. We hope that the Milwaukee rally will be as large as the Madison one, but I don't think we can quite compete. I'm just happy to have off from work. Can't wait to see the next president of the United States! Woo hoo! I love living in a swing state. We won't know what to do with ourselves after this is over and we're not getting all this attention.
