Which champagne to toast President Kerry ??
Please don't laugh but I have never had champagne. Any suggestions for what brand I should buy for my celebration?

I'm not a big wine drinker either... I like mixed drinks. So I have no earthly idea what kind of champagne to buy.

Can anyone help me out?

8. I Prefer Martini & Rossi Asti Spumante
OK, so it's a sparkling wine - not a true champagne - but it's as good or better than any champagne I've ever had. A lot cheaper, too.

9. Depends on your price point
Moet & Chandon White Star Extra Dry is a very reasonable choice. For a more expensive taste try Perrier Jouet. If you really want to splurge there is always Dom Perignion, Krug or Louie Roederer cristal.

14. Saint Hillaire
It is technically not a champagne because it's bottled just over the fence from the Champagne District in France. It's bottled by a bunch of Benedictine Monks whose order has been making it for a whole century before anyone else. Because the order takes a vow of poverty it only costs 10-14 bucks but is comparable to a $40-60 bottle. It's fantastic.

I think it's very cool to drink pseudo champagne bottled by guys who've taken a vow of poverty. There's something ironically low rent, yet decadent about it. . .kind of like putting caviar on baked potatoes.

I know a young lady whose's world champion horse had to be put to sleep this year do to an incurable illness. His name was My Korbel and he was absolutely beautiful. In his honor I suggest Korbel.

The horse was previously owned and ridden by William Shatner of Star Trek fame. This is the best photo I could find of My Korbel.

It's not a champagne, strictly speaking, but it is a pretty good methode champenoise wine. I've got a bottle of it in the fridge right now for when they call this election for Kerry - whenever that may be.

My brother who is a wine-fool (oneophile?) couldn't tell the difference between that (about 14-16 bucks) and a 100 dollar a bottle type.

Well worth the money.

32. Very un-trad, but If you can find Fox Creek Vixen
Sparkling Shiraz, that would be a neat one tro try. It's a sparkling red - looks very pretty in a glass.

But if it's your first time, I would prolly go with Asti Spumante - cheap, sweet, and bubbly.

neither are traditional champagne.

Let the stress of the last 4 years bleed right off.

Edit: And despite my avatar, I do not actually smoke very often. Only twice in the past year, due to increased law enforcement pressure and such (aren't they supposed to be protecting me from terrorists, not THC?)

45. Here's what my friends and I will be having ... they kick butt!
From Rachel Ray, Food Network:

Frozen Peach Champagne Cocktails

1/4 cup sugar, to rim glasses
1 pint peach sorbet
2 shots Triple Sec, Grand Marnier or Cointreau
Chilled champagne or sparkling wine, to fill blender, 1/3 bottle
Raspberries and 4 springs mint, optional garnish

Place a shallow bowl of water along side a shallow bowl with 1/4 cup sugar in it. Dip 4 cocktail glasses in water, then sugar to rim glass.
Place 4 scoops peach sorbet in blender. Add 2 shots orange liqueur. Fill blender with Champagne to maximum fill line or up to 1-inch from top of blending pitcher. Place cover on blender tightly. Blend until smooth and pour into cocktail glasses, keeping an eye out not to wreck the pretty sugar rims. Garnish with a few raspberries and a sprig of mint and serve.
