Question: So what if you are registered more than once?
As long as you don't vote more than once what is the big deal? A person may have registered twice just to make sure they got into the system. If that person is a legal voter and only votes once, what is the problem? Should a person be not allowed to vote because they registered twice?

1. Bottom line: I think this is true of many people. How many have
specifically sent in a letter to cancel old voter reg when you moved? Probably no one. Nonissue if you don't vote in more than 1 state.

2. uh, I doubt there are many people who register twice
I think it's a crime, and once you register you sign that you are nullifying past places of registration. They would have to provide false info to get a 2nd registration.

Why do you ask?

6. Not that simple......
I registered people whom were new voters or whom hadn't voted in decades, BUT they had previously (recently) registered but had gotten no notification of their registration and it was getting close to the primary and they wanted to vote. The damn new registrations were soooooooooooooooooo behind that it was easier to do it again than to NOT be able to vote. There were so many flakes out there registering people and who knows what happened to those papers.People also re-registered because they couldn't remember what address they were registered at.

I told people. as we got close to the primary, if they hadn't gotten any info in the mail to do it again I don't think this is a big deal as long as they don't vote twice.

8. When you register to vote you state that you
nullify past voter registrations. Only someone wishing to commit vote fraud would vote in 2 or more precincts in 1 election.

11. Who said anything about more than one precinct
the fact that you are nullifying all past registrations makes it legal.

12. I was attempting to clarify the voter registration rules
on your post- sorry
Many people do not understand the laws in regards to voting. If we spent 1/4 the $$$ we spent advertising the "War On Drugs" on voter education we would not have these problems.

9. thats bullshit

I've been registered in multiple locations plenty of times. It happens routinely when you move. You're still listed in your old polling place(s). That doesn't mean you get to vote more than once. Only one vote per person!

I'm not certain what they do if you vote more than once, whether they throw one out or just invalidate your votes period.

10. When you sign your registration you NULLIFY
past registrations. In order to commit a criminal act you must vote in more than 1 precinct.

Re-read my post.

3. You're supposed to stick with only the most current registration
Multiples ought not make a difference, provided you use only the last one.

4. I heard on NPR tonight
that people can be registered more than once if they've moved etc. That's not a crime. To VOTE more than once however IS.

5. I've registered at least twice in the last year.
Last November, when I got my driver's licsense renewed, they asked if I wanted to register, and I wasn't sure if I would have to register or not, so I just said "yeah, sure." So I got a new registration. Then the caucus came, so I had to re-register again as a Democrat to vote in that (I had been registered as independent). And there might have been another one in there too...I don't remember.

But yeah, I never got what the big deal was with people registering more than once. If they were registering under multiple identities or something like that it might be a problem, but simply registering to vote more than once shouldn't cause alarm.

7. You CANT register twice at the same address

The only way you can register twice is to give a different name or a different address.
