Reds Staters: What are you seeing at the polls?
Lines? Anything that points off to a possible surprise or two for the nattering class? Could there be some shocks in the works?

1. I waited maybe 10 minutes in Indianapolis
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 08:31 AM by kcwayne
I got there at 6:15, and was the 53rd voter. There were only 6 voting booths, and the poll workers could only accept one voter at a time to hand out ballots.

It was a breeze to get in and out. The media was there because I live in the reddest of the red precincts in Indy, and therefor the media thinks that my polling area is representative of the Indianapolis area.

30. I had no wait.
I was #45 in Marion County, 81st precinct. Not many people around at all....no media here. People were predominantly Bush supporters though...I noted in another thread that there were a couple vehicles outside the doors that had a ton of anti-Kerry stickers.

Pretty laid-back though for me.

3. I had to wait 30 min...
...and there were a lot of democratic yard signs right in front of my polling place (at least two per democrat) and only one or two Andy for Indy yard sign. However, I live in a part of Indianapolis where there are a lot of African-Americans.

There were no problems at my polling place.

4. Moderate lines in my precinct of Indianapolis at 6am.
Though I've heard of longer lines from other locations. I wouldn't hold my breath for this red state, but Kerry should hopefully do better than Gore did in 2000.

5. I'm going to do some checking here in Central Texas and post later
I'll have to zip up my jacket (FINALLY cool enough to wear a jacket in the morning!), so my K/E shirt doesn't show and then I can scout out the lines and see what's what.

I'll report back, soon.

7. I'm in a northern suburb of Atlanta (very Republican area) .
I was upset to see over 100 people in line when my husband and I got there at 6AM. The polls didn't open until 7, when we left at 8, there had to be over 600 people in line.
I find that very troubling. I know Republicans are loyal to Bush (for some unfathomable reason) but I do not want to think they are going to turn out in record #s.

8. Big turnout in north Georgia
I was surprised at the big turnout but don't know what to make of it. Folks in line with me say the lines have been long all week (early voting) so that means the turnout is huge! This is a retirement community but there were alot of younger folks voting. Course, I went early and I guess those who are younger and still working came before work...retirees will come later. I would love this to mean a good Democratic turnout!!!

26. Long, long line at Woodstock High School at 7 a.m. in No. GA
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 10:10 AM by RebelOne
I don't know how many, but I was No. 170 and it looked like at least another 200 behind me and they were still coming when I left. Plus there was another long line at the middle school right next door. But I'm sure they were pretty much predominately Republican. Cherokee County is Bush country. I am probably the only one in this county with a Kerry/Edwards bumpersticker. I see nothing but Bush/Cheney yard signs and bumperstickers.

14. North MetroLanta GA--long lines.
I arrived twenty minutes prior to opening, and there were at least 200 people ahead of me.

No surprises. The poll workers here are efficient and polite. It's predominantly Republican, but I've never seen any instances of intimidation or inappropriate electioneering at the polling place, in my 3+ years here.

19. I voted Early
I voted early and the lines for early voting in Texas were longer then any year I have voted. I have seen on the local news that lines this morning (Tuesday) are at historic highs and people are waiting in the weather to vote.

A co-worker who could not vote early because she changed precincts was 2 hours late this morning and said she almost gave up on voting ( which would of been good since she is voting for *).

One of the reasons I think interest is so high here (Texas) is a lot of the local talk nuts really want * to win the popular vote so they are really pushing the Repub zombies to the polls.

20. East-Central La. - No surprises
Voted at 8:20am this morning (damned alarm clock didn't go off earlier). There were no lines at all and the courthouse looked like a regular business day, walked straight into the booth after signing in with voter card and DL. Relatively small population in Concordia Parish so I didn't really expect to see crowds of people.

Concordia Parish is using the old lever booths we've been using for probably 30 years; I'm 27 and have I've never voted with a paper-trailed ballot here.

Didn't see ANY signs or stickers on any of the vehicles outside, and there no signs at all along the highway median like there usually are before turning into the voting location.

The town seems "quiet." It's raining and gloomy outside today.

35. Massive turnout in Alabama
I have never seen it like this. I waited for 45 minutes to cast my ballot in a precinct where I have always been able to walk up to the table and get a ballot without a wait.

Amazing.

While this is a very red state, I predict that the large voter turnout will help Kerry more than Bush.

Had a bout a 20min or so wait line was out the door. First time voting in this precinct so can't judge if that is normal or not. I'm 27 years old saw two people younger then me out of a crowd of about 30, couple of folks older the majority were probably about my age to 40.

37. St. Louis, Missouri
Very small polling location - at least eighty people in line - poll worker had said she had NEVER seen voter turnout like that before at that location and she'd been doing it for a long time.

When I voted in the primaries I was the only one there when I voted. Waited 30min this morning. I voted at 6:00 am. Just drove past polling place again and there's still a line!

Talking to other people who said they'd waited in lines around st. louis for an hour and more!
