Norwegian paper endorses Kerry
(sorry if this is in the wrong forum, moderators please move if so)

Aftenposten, a Norwegian paper, has endorsed Kerry for US President:

Never before has a US presidential election captured so much interest and attention. Now Norway's "newspaper of record," the relatively conservative Aftenposten, has even published an editorial endorsing John Kerry, calling incumbent George W Bush "an American accident."

I particularly like the 'American accident'! :D

2. And the fun thing is!
Aftenposten (The Evening Post) is a conservative newspaper!

Of course, conservative in Norway's pretty much left of the Democratic party, but still! They're traditionally friends with the GOP.

3. I suppose...
you mean they are to the right of the Democratic party. I would say the conservatives in Sweden are like centrist republicans or right-wing democrates. Guys like Spat Pukeanan (oh... Pat Buchanan) or Jesse Helms simply don't exist.

4. Yes and no.
In the social arena people are more liberal than the Dems, but also more paternalistic. Norway's economic and social policies are generally even more liberal than those of the Democratic party. Xenophobia is this country's major problem.

The Right Party (conservative) here in Norway is currently in a coalition government with the other conservative party, the Left party (it's become much more conservative since its inception) and the centrist-conservative Christian People's Party. The Finance Minister (from the Right party) is a partnered gay man. Their former Environmental Minister has worked tirelessly to shut down Sellafield.

They are in favor of privatization, yes, and for getting people into the work force and off welfare. So on some issues they're comparable to the republicans.
