What's this about someone being paid with crack to register votes?

Karl Rove was on Hannity/Colmes last night, and used that as a justification for the RW's aggressive voter challenges.

I'm not aware of this incident.

Sounds awfully fishy to me.

If it DID happen, it was a sham orchestrated to justify the right's voter suppression drive, IMO.

But not the drug. It was a picture of Matcom in one of his thongs. A powerful motivator.

His real justification for aggressive voter challenges is that he knows that Monkeyboy can't win unless they steal the election.

It's not going to be enough this time.

I have seen it mentioned a lot of places, including "real" newspapers, but have never seen the hard facts.
Seems to be a lot of innuendo.

(CNN) -- Ohio authorities say a man was charged Monday with filling out more than 100 fictitious voter registration forms, some in names such as Disney character Mary Poppins and pop singer Michael Jackson.

Chad Staton, 22, of Defiance County in northwestern Ohio, was to receive money for each registration form he could persuade potential voters to fill out, said Sheriff David Westrick.

Instead, Staton, himself, filled out the forms and returned them to the Toledo woman who hired him. Sheriff's deputies allege he was paid in crack cocaine instead of money.

I know that there is no depth too low for Karl Rove to stoop to. He comes across as a sociopath in the film.

So that ONE INCIDENT "excuses" the rightwingnuts for their wholesale voter fraud & suppression, say the rightwingnuts.

Oh and MARY POPPINS is not expected to actually VOTE.

Basically, the Rethugs have two (count 'em, TWO) stories of voting irregularities to trot out whenever they are accused in the media of vote fraud. The first is the crack story. The second is the crazy guy who registered to vote 35 times. Both of these incidents involve a handful of people and a handful of votes.

Contrast that with the ORGANIZED, DELIBERATE, and HIGHLY EFFECTIVE dirty strategies the Pukes have used, including posing as independent voter registrars on the street and then destroying the Dem registrations. Also jamming phone lines the day of the 2000 election, preventing disabled Dem voters from calling a hotline to get a ride to the polls. Both of these examples have resulted in CRIMINAL charges being brought. They are so blatant about it that they're going to prison for it.

He didn't VOTE 35 times, he was REGISTERED 35 times.

I doubt MICKEY MOUSE, who also REGISTERED, will get to actually VOTE. ;)

A guy registered fake voters because he got paid per registration.

However, new voters who didn't register in person have to show ID anyway the first time (I think), and there was never anyone claiming that there was intent to have people actually show up to vote under the fake names.

The fact that he was paid in drugs is not relevant to the voter fraud issue at all, it just adds a nice bit of sensationalism to the story.

rove and repugs create the same going on the dem side as repug to make their mishaps as they are both doing it. it is not the same. we called it, we said wrong, one individual as opposed to a whole party.

repugs come back saying dems doing same. i am goerge and then cussin a stream of words. then rove can say happening on both side. it is not. this is organized effort on repug party

the bottom line is, who gives a rats ass. If someone needs a hit off a crackpipe to vote - I dont really care! As long as he votes. Thats right, I think crackheads have the right to vote. I think felons, who have paid their price to society and fulfilled their sentance have the right to vote. I think every free person has the right to vote. And its not just 'law abiding citizens'. We all speed at sometimes in our cars. Most of us have toked a joint at some point in our lives. None of us are perfect. It is high time (no pun intended) we all wake up to this fact and STOP GIVING IN to the MORAL MINORITY that crucifies everyone for their crutches and weaknesses.
