Punchin' That Chad
I voted! I'm not in a swing state, but the turnout was still higher than usual. I poked out the little chad for Kerry Edwards like five or six times, just to MAKE SURE.

I felt pretty good going out there. Now I'm nervous. But we will prevail!

My partner is poll-watching in Milwaukee for Election Protection. Please think good thoughts for her, it is liable to be a tense day up there.

Let's go blue,

The Plaid Adder

2. Thinking good thoughts!
I also voted in a non-swing state, but there does seem to be a higher level of enthusiasm and interest. We do have some local races that are pretty contentious, so maybe that's partly it.

3. I only punched K/E once.
But I punched the 'No on Issue 1' chad three times, for good measure. Ohio Issue 1 is the 'not only no gay marriage, but corporations aren't allowed to offer partner benefits to anybody but married couples' amendment that may very well lose Ohio even more jobs. I pretended it was the eyeball of the jerk who wrote that sh*t bomb of an amendment.

I really worry about it passing -- people here are xenophobic and homophobic enough without having laws to help back them up.

weve been hitting it hard, so who knows what will happen. The bottom line is, taft, voinovich, AND dewine are all against it; that tells you what a pile of shit it is..

6. I suppose I shouldn't worry as much as I do.
I've seen plenty of 'No on 1' signs right next to Bush* signs in people's yards, around here. And lots of people who weren't going to vote because they didn't like Bush* but weren't excited about Kerry have been saying they may go and just vote 'no' on that. I just know they've misrepresented the issue, especially in the churches, they weren't clear about everything it said. Some people have more 'faith' than sense about these things, and don't understand that there are large businesses here in Ohio that may well leave the state or cut their staffing here in Ohio because they found out offering partner benefits was good for business.

10. The one here would pass without a problem ...
if it weren't for the additional language prohibiting businesses from doing business as they see fit. I would have voted agin' it regardless, but the way it's worded, a lot of Republicans who aren't from the religious right don't like it, either. As noted, some of the biggies -- both senators, the governor -- have urged people to read it carefully and vote against it. They see the hand writing on the wall -- good jobs are scarce enough in this state without running people like NCR out.

Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 10:10 AM by minerva50
I voted in Prince George County, Md. Heavily Black and Democratic precinct, no big contests of any kind. I never saw such a line to vote as this AM.
