I got to the polling place (a small Knights of Columbus meeting hall) at 6:00 am. Other than folks working the polls, no other voters showed up until 6:30. By 6:45, one by one and at 60 second intervals, cars showed up. When I saw people walking toward the door I got out of my car and stood in line. They had 5 touch-screen machines for my precinct, I was fourth in line, so I was among the first wave of voters.
It was like the "ET finger" feeling when I touched that screen and saw the check mark go next to Kerry and Edwards. When I finished and saw the "review" screen and saw it again on the list of my choices, I thought about those photos I posted last night of Kerry in Cleveland and thought three words:
"Former...President...Bush."
Now we will have two.
This morning, Silicon Valley CA was clear, cool, crisp, with a warm yellow sun rising and the thinnest streaks of wispy white clouds against a bold blue sky. It felt like a new morning.
It felt like hope was on the way.
