Guilani in 2008? No way!
He's pro-choice. There is no way in hell a pro-choice Republican will ever win the GOP nomination. The evangelicals will burst a blood vessel.

I don't know if anyone can win the nomination without the support of Christian Coalition types. My sister-in-law is a republican county commissioner and the Christian Coalition scares her shitless.

That's where the GOP shock troops come from. Gotta have them to win in the primaries.

Plus, there is that nasty little scandal in which he had an affair and divorced his wife.

1. I agree. He has way too much baggage.
Though that isn't stopping them from backing the Gropenfuerer!

25. it's not a flip-flop, it's a spontaneous religious awakening
In the old days "election year conversion" was just an expression.

33. It's already happening. His remark about our troops and
the missing 380 tons of explosives in Iraq didn't help him or Bush.

I believe Skinner has a thread on this from last week. Sorry I can't retrieve it now - massive traffic is blocking access.

3. Gualani screwed up
He blamed the troops for the missing weapons when his whole party was saying that we have to be supportive of them.

6. That clip alone will bury his ass.
And believe me, he said some pretty whack things as mayor of NYC (I live in Northern NJ, so I get their news broadcast). Now, you have to BE pretty whack to be the mayor of NYC. But it sure doesn't play well to the bread basket.

13. On Imust this morning Rudy claimed that he didn't say
it, he was quoting Kerry. The man has no shame. Zero. Digusting
'terra' profiteering lying blabbermouth. People everywhere will soon find him as revolting has New Yorkers did on 9/10/01.

He's had more than his 15 minutes...buh-bye, Rudy.

5. Since 9-11
People have forgotten what an ass-clown the man can be. He could never contend in a national election, he makes too many gaffes, and his ill-advised attempt to blame the troops for the missing explosives last week is a reminder of that.

I don't think so. Besides he he had an out of wedlock affair didn't he. According the wingnuts that means he's unfit to be President.

14. Ralph Reed is my guess
Christian Coalition, strong record of screwing people and supporting corporate interests. He's their dream candidate.

"Reed's value to corporate America has been enhanced by his close ties to the Bush administration and especially to Karl Rove, the president's chief political guru. Not long after Century Strategies started, Rove reportedly helped Reed land an Enron contract worth at least $300,000 to help build support for energy deregulation"

18. Osama won't save him in 2008
His own record indicts him. He's made too many enemies and wasn't always the party soldier he is now. He endorsed Mario Cuomo for governor during his first term as mayor, and that hasn't been forgotten, let alone forgiven. Plus, his father's background (I think as an enforcer; maybe someone knows more about this than I do) may work against him.

The more people know about him, the worse it gets. Oh, and did I mention his parading Judy Nathan in front of the cameras while he was still married to Donna Hanover and their two children were feeling like God knows what? Great family values, there, guy. Sensitive, discreet--Rudy not.

22. If the Republican Party is smart
they will turn back towards their Moderate roots. However, Giuliani, even if the Party does that, has sullied himself in my opinion. His shilling for Bush, bashing of the troops is going to stay with him. And if anyone in the Administration is ever brought to trial for any of what has happened in the last 4 years, anyone who is associated with this Administration will be guilty by association. That's why I don't think Rudy, McCain, Powell, or Jeb have any realistic hope of running for President in the future. My money would be on Chuck Hagel who came out and criticized the Administration for Iraq and who has not been out shilling for Bush. He is smart enough not to associate himself too much with this Administration.

but he did himself major damage by blaming the troops for the missing explosives in Iraq. He will never escape the consequences of that interview. For the rest of his life, he will be Rudy "blame the troops" Giuliani.

31. Not to mention
1) his first wife was a first cousin
2) he cheated on his second wife in plain view of his children
3) there's too much film of him cross-dressing on SNL and such
4) he is an unappealing human being and looks like a corpse
5) after he divorced donna, he roomed with gay friends who were essentially married (one thing to like about the guy is that he is not a bigot)

and in 2008, with any luck, he'll be drolling spittle and ranting about what a hero he was on 9/11 in an old folks home

Giuliani did *nothing* heroic on 9/11. Any reasonably competent person (i.e., not Bush) would have done what he did. He only looks "heroic" because our country was so in need of a hero that day and our president was such a pussy (goat?).

He will not want that already-fading image tarnished the way it will be in a presidential campaign.

And finally, HILLARY ALREADY KICKED HIS ASS ONCE, AND HE AIN'T GONNA BE ABLE TO DO BETTER IN A REMATCH
