It's The Blessings Thread: What Are You Thankful For, Right Now?
In lieu of chewing your nails right off our hands, I figure we can do somethign positive by thanking all the people, things, forces, etc. who allowed us to keep on fighting to get to this point.

I'm gonna start:

* thank whatever the gods may be for my partner, poll monitoring in Milwaukee as we speak. Without her I would be in a ditch somewhere. I love you, Mrs. Plaidder! Now more than ever!

* T.W.T.G.M.B. for DemocraticUnderground! And a special big-ass thank you to the admins: Skinner, Elad, and especially EarlG, without whom there would have been no Plaid Adder column, which was a big sanity preservation device for me this year. They all knock themselves out 24/7 to give us a home on the internet, and this year, no matter what happens, they will know they DID make a difference. Woohoo!

* T.W.T.G.M.B. for all the people who are volunteering now and letting everyone around them know that the American people are not just going to sit there and watch while that bastard steals the WH AGAIN.

* T.W.T.G.M.B. for John Kerry and John Edwards for running a smart, tough, and (please God) successful campaign and giving us hope again.

Thank all y'all!

OK, your turn now,

The Plaid Adder

1. I am thankful for my children....who gave me the reason to get out and
canvass and work the polls today...

I am thankful for MrG, who finally wore down and has supported me each step of the way in my activism even though he didn't want me to.

I am thankful for my dear friends PassingFair who's been at my side since 11/2000 working to make things right in this world again.

I am thankful for DU...a place to let it all out.

:hi: To US!!! :toast:

2. I want to thank...
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 01:49 PM by Borgnine
-John Kerry and John Edwards for being the best candidates for the job, and rising to the occasion.

-Howard Dean for energizing the base. Howard, we couldn't have done it without you, and I will forever be in your debt.

-Al Franken, Mike Malloy, Janene Garafolo, and all the rest at Air America for finally bringing a liberal voice back to the airwaves.

-Jon Stewart, Steve Colbert, Rob Cordry, Ed Helms, Samanthee Bee, and Lewis Black for keeping us sane with humor.

-Bush, for being so incompetent. It's one thing to be an evil genius. Good thing he's just evil.

"In this world of sorrows, there remain things to be thankful for: for myself, I give thanks I am not a Republican."

7. I want to thank my parents for teaching me to think critically
I would probably be a Republican right now if it wasn't for my parents. I do want to be clear that I don't just follow their beliefs, I look at the "liberal" as critically as the "conservative." Thanks for teaching me to question everything - even you.

8. That voters are turning out in droves . . .
No matter what the outcome, I feel much better knowing that people are participating in the process. I'm grateful so many of our youth are turing out too.

9. I'm thankful for--
The DU for being here, and helping keep my spirits up.

John Kerry for being who he is, and for running such a strong campaign.

John Edwards for his boundless enthusiasm.

The Democratic Party for fielding a truly worthy candidate.

All the volunteers, including good friends of mine, who flew to Florida on their own dime, to help GOTV.

And finally, I'm thankful for hope, the first I've had in a very long time.

Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 02:10 PM by senseandsensibility
a white male who has taught me to be a liberal, to be a progressive, and to throw off the inhibitions of a republican childhood. He too came from a republican household, but he is similar to Dennis Kucinich in his views. However, he's much better looking than Dennis! (Sorry, Dennis, I can be very very superficial sometimes!)He is a feminiist, and actually wants me to be an equal partner in our marriage. Ladies, especially ones that haven't chosen their life partner yet: Pick a liberal!! They're better!!

12. I'm thanful that George Jr. reinvigorated the alternative press
Democracy Now! Free Speech TV, Alternative Radio. All have taken off since George jr. started destroying our country.

Finally we have good non-corporate voices telling us the truth.

13. For my beautiful wife, who's working the GOTV phones right now...
And for DU, and all the terrific folks here -- you have helped keep me sane during some of the darkest years of my life.

And for John and Teresa Kerry, and John and Elizabeth Edwards -- what a crackerjack team!

And for the gifts of life, love and good health, and a job that values my intellect and ability.

And for our terrific two cats, Rosie and Dobbs.

There's much more, but that's the short list! :bounce:

Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 02:28 PM by dave29
they knew Bush was an idiot. They knew Kerry was they guy who needed to replace him. But they had to deal with me and so many others blather on and on about a system they already think is broken. They understood they had to get involved this time.

I hope we can do something to give these folks more reason to believe in Government.

to throw out of office the corrupt and foolish . Honest to God , I get emotional when I see polling places , poll workers , volunteers of any and all political persuasions , campaign posters and " I Voted " stickers . We need to be willing to fight to preserve this .

22. I am thankful for UNITY
I am thankful that the left and the Dems of all stripes were able to set aside our differences and REALLY come together as one strong, consistent voice. I am thankful that we are now stronger than ever and that we will never allow ourselves to become fractured again. I am thankful that the future looks brighter than ever and that we will reform the Democratic party to be unbeatable in the future.

23. Thank you to:
The Admins of DemocraticUnderground.com - For providing this forum for all of us and working very long hours voluntarily.

William Rivers Pitt - For all his great essays of inspiration.

Air America Radio - For the voices of sanity they provide. (Hi Randi!)

The Kerry-Edwards Forum & Blog - For allowing the public to have a voice in this campaign (unlike the opposition). I helped out both here and there with issues background research, and enjoyed hearing Mr. Kerry make some of the points I wrote about in his debates and speeches. It was a pleasant surprise to me that anyone from the campaign was actually reading.

Bill Clinton and Al Gore - For speaking out and backing the Kerry-Edwards campaign. Al, you gave some truly GREAT speeches this year.

Agonist.org - For support to Democratic candidates and bloggers, decent reporting of the truth, and the great people I've met and interacted with there.

BlogShares.com - (Where I work.) My boss there has been extremely understanding while I spent a lot of hours away from work and got busy volunteering for the K/E campaign.

My Family - For their understanding and putting up with me during the last four years.

And last, but NOT least, my blog readers - For standing by me, defending me, reading my posts, and asking me lots of questions. You've all inspired me in my research and self-education over the last year or so.

Thanks also to all of you who are reading this now.

24. My wife, my kids, my country ... and My General - Gen Clark
My wife and her daughter and my sons .............. caring, loving, liberal, and voting (except my stepdaughter who is too young to vote, but who is working her little duff off convereting people to see the light!)

I love this country because we can change its direction to suit the will of the people, even when we get the occasional hijacking. I served this country because it was my duty to do so. I have never missed a chance to vote. America is, truly, America the beautiful.

In the very early days of this campaign, Kerry was my guy. Sparkly liked him, too, but saw his chances as perhaps slim (Mass liberal, hard for the electorate/sheeple to get past that in a time of war, etc.) so she maybe wanted Howard. Then came the General.

Wutta guy! War hero (several times, actually), a successful commander in an actual war (Kosovo), West Pt Grad, Rhodes Scholar, smart, down to earth, married that wonderful lady, Gert.

He's been perhaps the most indefatigable campaigner outside of the principals themselves. Some days we think he's mastered bi-location, seemingly appearing everywehere at once.

While Kerry is our guy to be sure, I want to recognize the General. I love that guy!

Kudos also to all the other Dem primary candidates.

Howard, you're the man who gave this party a spine and a pair of balls. We owe you BIG TIME. (ladies, don't flame me for this one ... its a dumb guy thing ... indulge me, okay?)

Rev Sharpton .... no one can do anything less than take you seriously, even when you say things in a way that makes us laugh and cheer. You're a serious guy with a serious message.

Sen Graham .... truth to power!

Rep Dennis .... some think you're a bit wacky. Not me.

Ambassador Moseley-Braun ....... your voice kept us honest and in touch.

Rep Gep ..... "nice man" doesn't begin to say it. You're a class act!

And then there's Jomentum ..........

***********************************************

I am sooooooooo proud to be a Democrat!
