Hunter S. Thompson: "Kerry will win big today. I guarantee it."
<SNIP>

It is now Tuesday, and John Kerry is looking good today, while George Bush is looking a little desperate. His eyes are wild and his voice is shrill and he is acting more and more like a doomed animal on its way to the meat-grinder. Young George is about to lose his first election.

JFK will win this one decisively enough to make any recounts or challenges irrelevant. If Kerry wins New Hampshire and Pennsylvania and Florida, for instance, this election will be over before it really gets started.

Kerry will win big today. I guarantee it. The evil Bush family of central Texas is about to suffer another humiliating failure on another disastrous election day.

And I knew it Sunday after returning from Los Angeles, where I had been campaigning for Kerry, my friend. Football and politics were never so fatally linked as they were when the Washington Redskins lost to the Green Bay Packers that day. It was all over after that.

The sun has come up over the Rockies and the time has come to drive into town and vote aggressively for my man, who will win this election handily. And the Democrats will regain control of both houses of Congress. That is all I know right now, and all I need to know.

When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro. We will march on a road of bones.

<SNIP>

1. "Young George is about to lose his first election."
Didn't he first taste defeat when he ran for congress in the 70's?

19. Sorry Raoul--my hero--but Junior loses his third race; lifetime 2 for 5
He lost his congressional campaign in '78, he won his two gubernatorial tries, and he will have lost twice as president.

Hunter's one of the best living writers, and he's a national treasure; I hope he's turning out the vote in CO.

5. If I were that confident, I'd be packing my bags for my new house
Not only am I nervous about the election, but I'm waiting by the phone to hear the outcome of my loan application. I'm a pessimist and an optimist. But when I don't know enough to say for sure, I am not optimistic. I wish I could be more like that. Hunter Thompson has something I want. Because from where I'm sitting, my nails are getting shorter. Man, if we have a president who hangs with HST, I am going to be totally thrilled if he wins!

The one in the foreground looks just like my cat, Burbank Spiffers "The Cat" Farmer. The other slightly looks like my other cat, Mr. Binklesworth Trevor York St. Kitt the Third.

Cheers!

Interesting names you have there. Mine are Bart, and Farnsworth.

These guys were born in the forest to a wild feral mother. Los Gatos, of all places.

22. Hunter S. Thompson, Ph.D., invented Gonzo Journalism.
Among his works are Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas and Fear & Loathing on the Campaign Trail '72. A literate, intelligent fellow who truly loves democracy, he's also had a colorful life including wild living, debauchery & experimentation with various psychoactive substances. (Plus guns & motorbikes.)

Here's a fansite: www.gonzo.org/

Here's his Rolling Stone article on the election: www.rollingstone.com/politics/story/_/id/6562575?

It's said Doonsbury's Uncle Duke was modeled after The Good Doctor; the cartoon character has gone on to live his own life.

Johnny Depp starred in the movie of Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. Check it out.

My 24-year-old daughter recently has taken up the good Doc's work, and is making her way through everything in the library at her Arkansas location.

I have such kickass children. They've been working hard for Kerry.

31. Wouldn't have pictured Thompson as a Democrat.
If anything, I'd picture him as a Libertarian, if not founder of the "Weird" party. Though, judging from the above snippet - he must be an ABB guy.

Mayhaps there's some practicality in his madness, after all.
Yay, HST!

Almost won, I believe. Last election, he voted for Nader; his current Rolling Stone article eviscerates Nader.

He's known Kerry for a long time & they get along.

38. Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!
I recall reading about his historic "Freak Power" run, though I couldn't remember his party name.
Considering his love of guns and explosives, I would have pegged him for a staunch gun rights advocate and otherwise leaning hard to the right.

I didn't know that he and Kerry are friends. Whew - now I am even more happy about our next (fingers crossed) president.
