Here is the 2008 Republican Nominee for President
Assuming Jeb doesn't run, here is the name of the next Republican nominee for president:

Senator, and former Governor, from Virginia George Allen, Jr.

He's the prototype. Southern, telegenic, fundie, pro-death penalty, pro-life, pro-gun, and most importantly, easily manageable by neocon advisors.

Yep. Mark it down, George Allen, Jr. will be the next Republican nominee for president.

1. He is a damn jerk. He won't be getting my vote.
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 01:58 PM by clydefrand
Can't stand the idiot. He has a smirk that is just as irritating as Bush's and Cheney's.

If he runs, I hope our (VA) Governor Mark Warner runs against him if John Edwards doesn't.

2. Well being a Virginian myself
if it happens it will only be because our current governor Mark Warner is going to put him out of a job the next time he is up for election!

6. Nope. No Way
The Republicans want a complete stooge. Guiliani and McCain can think for themselves, and the neocons don't want that at all. That's why Allen is the perfect choice. He's an idiot, and they can program him like a TiVo.

14. The GOP
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 04:27 PM by getoffmytrain
won't run another bush style fundie stooge again.... after this election, they are going to run repubs that appeal to urban voters... and the '08 ticket will be:

Guiliani-p
Condi Rice-vp

Laugh now... but that's a dangerous ticket as Guiliani could potentially carry NY and Rice will appeal to a number of black and female voters.... and they will be out for blood in '08 and they will not run divisive candidates like shrub on a national level.

16. Guliani Is Pro Choice And Pro Gay Rights,,,
Guliani on the ticket ensures a third party candidate from the right....

Even with Condi, the Dems will still get >80% of the African American vote....

Nominating Guliani will be the beginning of the Puke crack up....

Oh, and they still lose New York...

22. It won't happen
They were stupid enough to reject McCain, who in my opinion almost certainly would have defeated Gore, because he was slightly unpredictable. Giuliani, although a whore as well, is so moderate as to make McCain look like a Nazi, and he has a colorful past. There's no way he's convincing people that he's God incarnate or whatever the evangelicals are looking for.

5. Either Jeb or Allen == Another Kerry landslide!!!!
Kerry will be a two termer easily against either of those twits. The Bush* brand name has been tarnished beyond hope for at least two decades.

11. Fundies will sink him

As soon as Allen or Sanitarium get in there he's toast.

Sanitarium is interesting to the Repukes, because it could get them PA.

18. I hope in 06 PA sends Sanitarium packing!
About time we get rid of that Repuke. And since Santorum holds the late John Heinz's seat you're going to have Teresa, the Heinz kids and the Kerry WH gunning for him.

I'm betting Giuliani gets the nod.

Damn it's going to be fun watching the Repukes tear each other apart in the '08 primaries.

12. Allen? He makes Shrub look like, well someone with half a brain
I lived in the Old Dominion for 25 years, very active Democrat, and George is as dumb as a bag of hammers. Really. The only reason Mary Sue Coleman lost to him is that for some reason she decided to run against Pat Robertson. Well, not the only reason, Doug Wilder wasn't much help but she gave him that election. After that, he regularly got his ass handed to him by the legislature. Forget Allen. After shrubbie, I think the republicans are done with handsome but dumb. I'm thinking Chuck Hagel.

No way -- the man is a complete dolt. His name may carry in the DC area of VA, but the rest of us could really give a crap about his family name.

20. Something to keep in mind...
Over the course of the last year, a pretty large (but until now, mostly silent) rift has opened up in the Republican party. There are the neocons, and the traditional conservatives.

I say this because someone mentioned that McCain can think for himself (though Guliani doesn't - a popular misconception), the neocons won't accept him because they won't be able to "handle" him. I think the rift if the party will devolve into a tiny little civil war, and the 2008 election will actually pit candidates from the two separate factions from within the party against one another in a no-holds barred cagematch extrordinaire. It's not going to be pretty, and we can keep our fingers crossed that the election of Kerry today will effectively signal the end of the Neoconservative wing of the Republican party - much as the ascention of Newt Gingrich marked the beginning of that movement in earnest.

It's going to be incredibly interesting to watch one way or the other.

23. You Have To Appeal to the Fundies First and Foremost
South Carolina is the pivotal primary in the Republican party, not Iowa or N.H. Recall Bush lost N.H. handily to McCain in 2000, and came back with the S.C. win. The fundies control the Repug party, so they have to nominate someone that can get the fundie vote, but be stupid enough to do the power elite's bidding without question.

Santorum comes close, but he's too much of a fundie. Allen is the perfect choice. They can please the fundies, and then make him look moderate in the general. Trust me. Allen is the next Repug nominee.
