Why is this even close?
Edited on Tue Nov-02-04 11:43 PM by Cronus
Now that the topic can do no harm, I'm wondering how we can do better. We all know that Democratic principles have been to the benefit of all Americans, and particularly the ordinary citizen, yet half the damn country votes for the people who will rape and pillage the ordinary citizen for their own ends.

We're not reaching ordinary people well enough. We need to do better. What could we do better next time? Obviously, to gain and control more media channels would have to be a paramount objective. What else?

5. Democratics have the upper hand in morals and values
Republicans are hooligans with no morals and values not much higher than the gutter. How come poeple don't know that?

Perhaps that reflects the true nature of a lot of
the American electorate?

14. You know, that makes sense
Perhaps they're voting for people just like themselves...

...but if that were true, why do they pretend to be like us, compassionate and thoughtful?

17. Two words: Cognitive Dissonance
They've lied to themselves for so long that they believe it on the outside. But the inside always reveals itself and is subconciously trying to make it better by voting in accordance with one's true feelings.

9. Because people are mentally lazy.
One side thumps the bible, so everyone assumes they have "morals." You need look no further than the lives of Kerry and Bush, or the umpteen scandals that always seem to hit Republicans, to know that's wrong, but the perception is reality when it comes to something impossible to clearly define like "morality."

16. You know, in my genetics class
my teacher said that a student commmented to her that the more educated people were having fewer children and the less educated people were having more, so that the genetic equilibrium was shifting and not in a good way. Such fun for the human species and the world. Whoopee.

13. We need an ideology.
Pragmatism and defining ourselves by what we are against won't cut it. We need a set of organizing principles which package our ideas and set our agenda.

I do. Although that doesn't mean we don't need to rethink.

18. Ths country needs to be able to spot a tyrant and eject him
Just like a teenager deals with a zit. The fact that this is even close is a place we need to be FAR from by the next election. Squeaking by isn't a good long-term strategy, and neither is the unthinkable.

So have faith, but faith without work is just a wish, and prayer without action is no prayer at all. Let's work on making the story of our times unfold according to our ways, not theirs. So yes, a rethink is just what is called for. :)

21. While the Republicans can tell lies about us,
we need to tell the truth about them. In addition, you're right, we have to call them on the "liberals want to raise your taxes, take away your guns, surrender to terrorists" shit they like to make up.
