The Gay Marriage issue sealed the deal...
On IMUS this morning, Mike Barnicle from the Boston Globe and New York Daily News made a interesting point.

Kerry must want to strangle that federal judge from Massachusetts who introduced the whole gay marriage issue into the mix during an election year. Every state that had the ban gay marriage amendment on their ballots passed it easily. And that's pretty sad, because it shows how intolerant we have become with each other.

Folks in the red states just couldn't accept gay couples hugging and kissing on their TV sets each night. No matter how you feel about the issue, it's a big part of what turned the election.

I am still hopeful but very, very, depressed.

1. I hate to say it but I can see that as true
I pray tot he Gods that that didn't clinch it. But here in Missouri when they passed Ammendment 2 I suddenly came face to face with a very important fact.

MILLIONS of people I have never met and have never done anything wrong too HATE ME and people like me and will go out of thier way to hurt US.

If it's true here, why not other states?

2. Just remember . . .
Millions of people you have never met and have never done any good for care about you and people like you and will go out of their way to help you, too.

Some day there will be more of us than there are of them. I don't know that it will be in your lifetime, but humanity always gets more caring. Look at history: it's the story of us fighting our fears and learning to care about those who aren't like us.

I know the long view may not be of much comfort right now. It is, however, the reality. That's why the hatemongers fight so hard against it. They know hatred always loses in the end.

*HUGS*! to all the GLBT folks in states that passed these hateful amendments. You're not really alone.

3. Wrong court
No judge "introduced" the gay marriage issue. Courts only address issues that are presented by litigants. This case wended its way through the state court system and the decision came from the Massachusetts Supreme Court, which is charged with interpreting the state constitution. If I remember correctly, all but one of the judges in the majority opinion were Republican nominees.

If we don't understand the issues, how can we fault the other side.

4. Fuck that judge
Fuck that court. I swear...they've set back gay and lesbian rights nationwide for years with that ruling.

5. My two cents
I also see it as gay marriage, abortion and guns. It is these 3 issues that caused the fundies to come out so strong in favor of Bush. I can see us changing on guns, but the other two are civil right issues that are principles we cannot abandon. I just don't know where we go from here.
