I'm tired of being governed by rednecks...
Seriously, is secession a legitimate option? The north and most of the west are fairly reliably Democrat. Those states, IMHO, are far better off in quality of life too...education, health care, standard of living, income, etc. as well.

Can we split off? Is it feasible? I am sure the rednecks and Fundies wouldn't mind either. They can run their redneck states into the ground and finally get the "Christian nation" they want.

Oh I know there are a good 40% or so of good Democrats down south. I also know there are plenty of Freepers and right-wing jerks up north too. They'll just have to move to the side of their choice or choose to be in the minority. To southern Democrats, what's the difference? Where getting swamped now as it is.

1. A major population realignment...
Along socio-political grounds, is not inconceivable at this time.

But ask me in 2 weeks. I may have changed my views.

4. The population realignment is happening already
At one point last night Bush gained electoral college votes just by taking the same states he took last time. It looks to me like the blue states are the ones with a solid public school system and a solid tradition of real civic pride - parks, libraries, museums etc. The problem is that federal policies are destroying the blue states forcing people to leave.

3. As a Northern Virginian
I've been tired of redneck rule forever. Often I've thought that Northern Virginia should cut itself off from the southern part of the state forever.

5. Absolutely
One of my earlier posts got deleted for suggesting that option.
The truth is we (unfortunately) still are two nations of very different values stuck together. The South is still much the South since the Civil War, although there are some reasonable people down there. This is not a democracy where one part imposes its values on the other just because they happen to be in a slim majority.

Remember that the reason why the South went Republican en masse in the 60s is because they were opposed to Civil Rights. They have retained their "values" but have changed tags.

We don't need to be governed by these Redneck savages.

6. half of me is tempted to go back to my native UK
but that half is seriously considering a move to a 'liberal' state. I don't care how entrenched my hubby is in life down here, if I can move 5000 miles for him, he can move 1200 for me. I'm favoring New England.

9. Sure
I call it the "Civilized America". Try either coast or even some of the large cities in the Red states.

Austin is a paradox. Its an oasis of civilization in the middle of a large savage land (Texas).

7. they won't let us go... We subsize them.
The blue states are the most economically productive, wealth-producing, highly educated, cutting edge new technology centers. Blue states almost without exception pay more in federal taxes etc. than they get back.

We are subsidizing the red states' economies. Not sure they'd let us go without a fight, and of course they'd use their own red agents within blue states to make it really nasty.

So looks like we're stuck.

I like Jon Stewart's comment: We in the blue states in the NE will spend the next four years huddling together...

My very words. Why do we have to bear the burden of these vicious cannibals, and then have to listen to them ?

13. Upstate NY is losing jobs and people
It's gorgeous and a wonderful place to live - small towns, good schools, great university system, the works but our young people are being forced to leave. As noted above , we're carrying the burden for the red states, but the well is running dry.
