Bottom line...the MEDIA kicked our ass
And it the MEDIA that must go, or else the next billionaire Bushie who offers them everthing they want, will also be given a free pass.

Bush knew he had to play. He didn't play us...he played the media, and let the media play us. Kill your television has never been more apropros. We're sunk if there is not ONE network or news outlet willing to report NEWS instead of read press releases.

1. Absolutely right! The media must be aggressively boycotted.
Don't just unplug and shut-up. All of us should set goals and actively work to meet them.

9. A triple pronged attack...
Target the media outlets....SLAM them with emails and calls. We need a repository with videos and articles that the mainstream press is missing...and that WE want to see. Remind them that half the people in this country voted for a Democratic agenda. Email these videos and such to them saything 'THIS is what we want to see!" It also has to be loud and visible...sitting in front of the computer and sending emails isn't enough.....we need to get in their faces and in front of their offices.

Target advertisers.....Organized mass emails, boycotts of products, and again, it needs to be loud and visible.

Legislation - The public owns the airwaves and we have a right to know who the people are behind the news and we have a right to punish the people who abuse our trust. We need legislation that will make the media:

• Establish - at board level - whether the balance between public interest and commercial imperatives is being strategically reviewed, properly managed and publicly disclosed.

• Consider compliance with laws, regulations and industry codes as the absolute minimum for good governance — and commit to ‘beyond compliance’ standards wherever possible; Adopt and publicize ethical codes of conduct, and clear statements of their corporate values and principles; and Engage regularly with key stakeholders, ensuring that inclusive policies and processes are adopted right across the business.

• Provide leadership in terms of triple bottom line accounting, auditing and reporting.

• Disclose all proprietorial cross-ownerships and influence.

• Declare editorial policy — both general and issue specific — and political allegiances.

• Be open in relation to all sources of funds that could influence editorial and programming content — including their biggest advertisers, sponsors and production subsidies.

• Regularly report direct and indirect lobbying activities, both undertaken and accepted.

I would also propose a visible ombudsman type panel for each outlet to review and report factual errors. Errors and corrections should be reported by the source that broadcast them AND be of public record. And any outlet that abuses these rules, refuses to report them, or continues to broadcast proven factual errors should be sanctioned in some way. Perhaps being labeled "Reality based Entertainment" instead of "News"...

I just don't know....but we need to do something big and committed. Regardless of who REALLY wins the election, there is just too much being swept under the rug, and that's the way the some people want it.

2. let's brainstorm
AAR is a start. We need to continue to grow
a whole new media. We need some money people
to get things started. We've got plenty of
talented content producers.

3. Amen that. We need to pick one target (NOT FOX, they are a lost
cause) and ride them like the Pony Express.

My first pick: Leslie Blitzer. We can bring him to his sorry, bootlicking knees.

4. We needed a level playing field and didn't get it
Two parts:
money - we won, matching the GOP for the first time in history
Media - we lost, Bush's misinformation was drummed into the voting public for 3 years and two months

6. I agree. The alternatives have been making inroads.
It looks like they may not have won the war for us, but we have seen people change their opinions because of Michael Moore, put books critical of Bush on the bestseller list repeatedly, and respond to internet appeals to raise boatloads of money for the Democratic candidates and party.

We have to rely on all of our fairly new alternative sources of information and organization: the internet; individual writers and filmmakers; comedians like Jon Stewart, Al Franken, David Letterman, Bill Maher; Air America. And anything else we can think of.

Just as important is getting more people to turn away from the mainstream media and see them for the self-serving, lightweight blowhards that they are.

7. All of those open set? Disrupt them.
They like to broadcast in the "public." Well, we are the public. Protest behind them every morning. Force Al Roker and Katie Couric to stop their morning walk-arounds. Stand in the windows behind CNN with protest signs. And not with protest signs against THEM...against their SPONSORS. BigCo will shit its corporate pants if "BigCo Stole Your VOTE!" signs are waving behind a smiling Soledad O'Bubblehead. We cannot hope to turn off the teevees, because the Wal Mart Nation is addicted to Dr. Phil and Oprah. But think of the way Howard Stern has made live call-in shows risky business for anybody, from Prince Charles to CNN itself. WE need to be those call-ins. Guerilla marketing for OUR side.

10. I sent an e-mail to Skinner asking him to do a post-it
and let us organize a media campaign with our talking points to slam them with. We did it in the debates we can do it now but every minute counts and we need to start NOW.

11. Absolutely.
First things first.. we HAVE to concentrate on getting back the House and/or Senate. THAT is where the real change has to come, when we speak about the MEDIA fucks that are poisoning the airwaves.

I am NOT conceding this to Bush.. when Kerry concedes, I'll accept.

BUT.. it's not too soon to work on the mid-term elections.. which are almost more important than the presidency in our day to day lives. REPUBLICANS controlling ALL branches of government AND the supreme court.. is WRONG! That is our first order of biz.
