Just give the reins to Dean, folks.

He knows what to do, he's known for a long time.

Just give him the reins.

1. Oh, GET REAL.
We need a true leader, a messiah to save our party, if that is even possible now.

Dean can't do it. We have to find the PERFECT person to do this. No one who ran in the primaries.

5. Only his supporters during the primaries agree with you...
I've seen nothing impressive about him since.

32. Dean provided the fodder for the attacks the GOP used against Kerry...
Dean was not a team player before he lost in IA. He bloodied our nominee and caused division within the ranks. Highlighting the "faults" of our leaders for the opposition to use is not helpful.

4. We can't look for messiahs, cults of personality are dangerous
Dean can provide the foundation necessary to give us ideology and process to build leaders from the ground up. That should be our goal, is to have a party filled with leaders in every nook and cranny of elected positions.

11. We need another Kennedy.
Personally, I have always seen the Dean camp as a cult of personality. That's just my opinion, and not meant to piss off dean supporters.

If the division even here at DU during the primaries over the Dean personality isn't indicative that he is not the one to heal the Dem party, I don't know what is.

17. you couldn't be more wrong
and I don't know if this is because you never went to a Dean MeetUp or what....

It's about community.....the commmunity that we create of lick minded people to work towards saving our country and our party from the destructive forces at work in this country....

It has nothing to do with personality...Dean is not the most magnetic person in the world....

I would suggest that you rethink that view and actually talk to Dean people in your community, many of whom were already party activists before Dean came along...and will be after

15. What Dean knows is what's bullshit that needs to be cut out
and what isn't. Our party has a lot of baggage, and a lot of room for growth, and he has a great handle on these things, all within the mainstream of America.

23. Dean is a good person to head us in the right direction.
But this is something a lot of people need to be involved with. We need a plan and the folks with very deep pockets to help back it, as well as the folks with the $10 donations. We need to fund and support liberal/progessive thinkers and scholars to help us frame our message and we need ways to get that message out. No one person will save us. This is a group effort. And we can do this.

21. Amen. IMO that's his FIRST and foremost appeal.
at least to me. Not only right, but willing to just spit it out there, in THE most pragmatic, irrefutable, straight up, plain spoken rhetoric since at least Harry Truman. Short, succinct, absolutely right, unassailably true.

19. Dean's the one.
Kerry's a great guy, but we need someone who doesn't give up so quickly. Dean "lost" the primary, but he keeps fighting. He's a fighter, win or lose. We need his leadership.

25. UG
what is this about the fifth thread on Dean now?

I was a die hard Dean supporter. But this is not the time. Just my opinion.

I love Dean, but I honestly can't even think about him or 2008 or anything right now. And I have to wonder how much of these threads are motivated by a leftover bitterness about the primary elections. I was disappointed, too, mightily. But that seems like a pale comparison to this election.

Just numb.

Numb.

26. One man is not going to save us
We fell into this trap with Gary Hart. Let's worry about 2006 and then we can look at 2008.

Speaking of which, why doesn't Dean run for the Senate?

33. Well, for one
who is he going to run against- Leahy or Jeffords? Both seem like pretty decent people, liberal to left on most issues, Dem or indie Dem caucasing. So which one would you want defeated for Dean to replace? Now, maybe he could move to NH or Maine and run against one of their repubs, but I don't think Vermont is an option. At least for now.

And I could be wrong, but I don't think this post was about Dean running for anything. I think BGL meant DNC Chair?

He didnt carry the baggage that Kerry did.

He also seemed to understand the South better than most other democratic candidates did.
