This is the best thing that's ever happened to Howard Dean
He is definitely a player in an open '08 election. Especially with a pissed off base.

1. Howard Dean is done.
Anyone looking at the electoral map realizes that. A northeasern "liberal" from a small state is not going to be the party's nominee.

2. Dean is nothing like Kerry
and for the Democratic Party to be successful again, we have to win regardless of regionalism.

5. Whoever Dean is or is not like, he is a Northeastern
"liberal" from a small state. In other words, Howard Dean is like Howard Dean, and that's more than enough.

20. Being "electable" doesn't guarantee election.
It only gives you a shot. Electoral politics isn't a game of certainties.

15. It pisses me off to think a person from the upper midwest, northeast
or west coast is considered unacceptable out of hand for the folks living in locations of the Confederacy (which BTW was antiAmerica!).

My dream, of course naive, is that satellite television will bring them a world view that includes more than wrestling and nascar.

Liberty, Justice, Equality these are things we are working toward.

Hegemony, apocolypse and homophobia are really not American values, even if they are brought to us by overweight musclar men in bikini bottoms, fast cars and smooth talking evilangelists.

6. Howard Dean couldn't beat John Kerry among Democrats
How could he win over Independents?

Sorry, the myth of the unmotivated voter is just a myth. A cattle prod couldn't get them to the polls.

7. Then consider me a Dean opponent

I was ambivalent, but if his supporters want to look at today as anything but a disaster for all Americans of good will, they can kiss my support goodbye.

Dean would have been beaten much worse than Kerry was. It would not have been close.

8. God, do we really want to trot out another New England "liberal?"
Maybe Dean can do it in 2008. But I'm looking at the electoral map and we seem to have a pretty good handle on the Northeast. It's the rest of the country where we are fucked. My gut feeling is that we need someone from the Midwest or South to un-fuck us. Too bad Obama probably won't be ready in four years. Then again....maybe.

11. And wasn't the base pissed off this year too?
So far, we've had two "pissed-off" elections and we've lost ground in both. Maybe it's time to stop selling anger.

can expand outward.
