People from SD (or people in the know): why did Daschle(sp?) lose?

I know he is not the favorite of many here (I'm not that fond of him either) but I mean he is/was the minority leader. SD is conservative and Bush country but he's been there forever. What happened?
I mean, being in FL, I know what happened to Castor.
Was it the war? The patriot act?
I saw the debate and the other guy seemed an empty suit. Just curious.

He followd the DLC credo and told his constituency that he was really a Republican.....and let's face it if you're gonna vote Republican you might as well vote for a man actually is one.

In one of Daschles last campaign commercials he stated and I quote "I have supported President Bush more often than not."

Daschle didn't look into the camera and say...John Thune is a liar....and I challenge him to back up the vague claims he's made about me. Or, John Thunes campaign is filling your mail boxes day after day with 4 color two sided magazine quality ads printed on card stock....ads which are comprised largely of lies and ads which no amount of South Dakota money could have ever paid for....so who's money IS paying for them and why? Nope at no time did he do anything of the sort....He was busy being the positive campaigner.

Thunes Republican backers depended on and successfully courted the stupidity and fearfullness of South Dakotans...Daschle helped them by assuming that South Dakotans were indeed to stupid to recognize lies...even if the lies were pointed out. Instead he pandered to the same stupidity ad fear by claiming to be as Republican as a Republican.

He appeared weak and innefectual...which of course he and the rest of the DLC are....and that is why Daschle, Kerry and Edwards lost....and will continue to loose. People won't vote for a man who is to ashamed or frightened to viciously fight for what he believes in over a man who is not. That is a point the Republicans have quite pointedly made...

Now let's all take the high road...join hands with the fascists to our right and sing Kumbaya. Let's run up the road and congradulate the guy who kicked down all the Kerry signs on our street for a fight well and honorable fought.
