One bright spot in South Dakota -- Stephanie Herseth was re-elected
I imagine that NRA endorsement she received probably made the difference. Many DU'ers will likely call her a sell-out and a DINO for having sided with the NRA on a vote. But the fact is, you can't do any good for anyone if you can't get elected. The Democratic Party needs more elected officials like Stephanie Herseth. She's bright, charismatic, and knows how to win over a hostile electorate. And unfortunately, there are many places in America that are hostile to the Democratic Party.

1. She probably didn't need the NRA endorsement.
She won the special election earlier this year, and there likely wasn't going to be much movement in votes in the six months or so to the general election.

I am SO happy that she won. Her support was obviously strong since she won on a night Daschle lost.

2. Good news!
I'm not wild about the NRA thing. But South Dakotans DO hunt. And I'm sure a very large portion of the electorate goes hunting. Stephanie represents her constituents' interests. Better a bright Dem than the alternative.

3. She actually got more votes than Thune did.
since SD only has one House seat, that means she ran statewide. She's someone to keep an eye on in the future.
