8. I'm going with Diebold also.
I never felt comfortable relying on OH or FL to seal a Kerry victory. FL has jeb and Diebold has wally o'dell (is that his name?).

2. Bush basically said: whatever you think of me, Kerry will be worse
no shit, that is what the Bush campaign depended on as the calculus.

4. Because Kerry's numbers sucked too
Given two candidates that suck, the people chose to keep the devil they knew.

5. Exactly
There were obviously a small but significant number of voters out there who didn't think Bush was doing a good job but felt that Kerry would be even worse.

20. Not only that, Bush's approval numbers were not what this thread states
I got very worried late Monday night when I looked at the approval numbers from the final polls. Of the last 6 or 8, only 1 was below 50% and that had it 49%.

That held up according to CNN's exit polling.http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/US/P/00/epolls.0.html

If you scroll far down, Bush's approval rating among 13,000+ actual voters was 52 or 53%. The right track/wrong track was actually slightly right track, 49-47. I don't know what changed in the final days or week, but with a 13,000+ nationwide sample there should be virtually zero margin for error.

Kerry's favorable/unfavorable was a pathetic 47/51. I guarantee Edwards' would have been at least reverse of that, on the positive side. It was my reservation about Kerry all along. On DU two years ago I posted Kerry was "just good enough to get you beat."

6. Rove was able to get out the conservative vote
we made some gains in the youth vote, but not enough to block the evangelical tide.

7. Ask me another....
..because I'm buggered if it makes sense to me....In fact, on a fluff piece with Brian Williams last night on MSRNC he asked basically the same question...

The probable answer is Diebold.

9. 40% didn't vote
and the Christo-fascists had a better GOTV apparatus then we did.

the Democratic Party needs to make itself relevant to the 40% who didn't vote as well the 29% who voted for Kerry. Only 10% of 18-24yos voted. We need to get them on board as they have the most loose (well those that aren't killed in one of Bush's crazy wars in the next 4 years.)

We needed strength and principles. We got doubletalk and pandering that was called "electability".
