Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 10:02 PM by arcos
A lot of DUers have been blaming young people for "not voting". Well, I have news for you... young people were the only group where Kerry got a majority support, he lost in all the other groups. Plus, it was the only age group where Democrats got more support than 4 years ago.

So, if you want to blame someone, blame people older than 30... Young people gave a decisive victory to Kerry, and everyone else screwed up.

........................Bush.Kerry.Nader..
18-29........(17%) 45% 54% 0%

30-44........(29%) 53% 46% 1%

45-59........(30%) 51% 48% 0%

60 and Older.(24%) 54% 46% 0%

1. Ditto - 21 years old here and a first-time voter.
And I know very few people my age who did not vote in this election.

4. and it was in huge numbers also
the reason it's still 17 percent as in 2000 was because the other age groups increased their turnout also.some people are assuming the actual number of voters was the same as 2000 when this is not the case. but the younger voters went for kerry by a large amount unlike the others.

9. I think that illustrates the problem.
The only age group that voted for Kerry was the one with (usually) the lowest turnout. Kerry didn't appeal to the heart of the electorate.

18. or else they just didnt wait in line to vote
after all, the evangelicals came out in droves - that explains the long lines. Of course all of US were there...but what about the average 18-30 yr old?

14. And bear in mind that there just aren't as many of us to begin with
Due to changes in birth rates over the decades, there are considerably more elderly and middle-aged constituents, and that will persist. That of course is a problem in itself.

16. I've been debunking those who blame it on the youth
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 01:21 AM by Straight Shooter
I'm in the 45 to 59 group, and it pissed me off royally to see people trying to blame the youth. I know how hard you all tried to put someone with intelligence and real leadership abilities in the White House.

I was just surprised at how quickly some of the older ones started blaming the youth. Very disappointing :(

Edit: Sorry that people in my age group are a "problem in itself"

19. what I find outrageous about this
is while we get no social security, no pension, no nothing...

the very people who the democrats got all that stuff for, payback them
by voting for Bush and most importantly
screw over their kids and grandkids who will be broke by comparison.

22. Look at the same chart from 2000: 18-29 favored Bush
Not only did the youth vote switch dramatically our way with increased numbers this time, they wised up and abandoned Nader completely. He got 5% in 2000, much more than any other bracket.

18-29 17% Bush 48% Gore 46% Buchanon 1% Nader5%
30-44 33% Bush 48% Gore 49% Buchanon 0% Nader 2%
45-59 28% Bush 48% Gore 49% Buchanon 1% Nader 2%
60 or Older 22% Bush 51% Gore 47% Buchanon 0% Nader 2%

Notice Bush made gains among every age group other than 18-29, this time compared to 2000. Minus new young voters, last night would have been an early and lopsided defeat.

24. Zogby predicted 2-1 majority for Kerry among young voters
Zogby predicts Kerry victory

Utica pollster John Zogby said polling results indicate Sen. John Kerry will defeat President Bush in today's election.

"I think we're looking at a Kerry victory," Zogby said Monday night.

Zogby expects a very large turnout among young voters, with at least 55 percent voting in today's election.

Among voters ages 18 to 29, polls indicate that 0 percent are undecided, Zogby said. He believes that group will give Kerry the edge.

Kerry will get 64 percent of those votes followed by Bush with 35 percent and third-party candidate Ralph Nader with just 1 percent, Zogby said.

(11/2/2004)
     - The Observer Dispatch

www.zogby.com/Soundbites/ReadClips.dbm?ID=10289

64-35 predicted by Zogby on the day of election%

54-45 turned out

There are only two possibilities to explain this gap:

1) Zogby doesn't know how to do his job (but his predictions were well in agreement with the exit polls)

2) Vote fraud

Sorry, everybody who doesn't see this is blind.
