It's not 1984, folks, it's Brave New World.
Despite a considerable amount of Newspeak from the Telescreen, I suggest that we're looking at a Huxleyan world rather than an Orwellian one. Ashcroft's Nazis won't lock us up in camps; the beloved free market will keep plying us with cheap gasoline, Hollywood blockbusters and curly fries. Like the frog in the lukewarm pot, we'll continue to sit in place while the water heats up.
