OK the Evangelicals won this time! Then LET THE CULTURE WAR BEGIN!
Something struck me just a minute ago! I was thinking during the next election we should move to the center like Clinton did as that is what is safe. Then I thought "Thats not what is in my soul". Then I realized something! We let the Evangelicals paint our side as a moral and didn't speak up! No, it's time to fight fire with fire! In the next election we attack the Religious Right head on! We discredit them and expose them for what they are!

Bush won by going for his base and attacking us as evil and morally bankrupt. It worked because the center didn't get the other side!

So how do we fight the evangelicals? We attack them with truth, world history, facts, science, reason and most importantly with our hearts and our soul! They want a culture war then lets give them ONE!!!

Thomas Jefferson is on our side, George Washington is on our side! Thomas Edison is on our side, Albert Einstein is on our side! Jesus Christ is on our side! Every great mind through out history has been a free thinker and it's time to educate the world about things like the Age of Enlightenment again. It's time to educate people on the evils of fundamentalist religions. It's time for an all out war of our ideals against theirs. Why will we win? Because we are right and history is on our side!

WE NEED TO START AN ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN ON TV THAT WILL EDUCATE PEOPLE SO WE CAN TAKE BACK OUR COUNTRY FOR THE DARK AGES! WE DON'T WANT TO MOVE TO THE CENTER BUT SCREAM AS LOUD AS WE CAN ABOUT OUR DEEP BELIEFS!

SO WHO IS WITH ME! WHAT CAN WE DO TO START OUR NEW AGE OF ENLIGHTENMENT AND LET THE MOVEMENT RISE LIKE A TIDAL WAVE OF TRUTH AND GOODNESS?

1. Any publishers here? My dh has a hell of a book:
about the religious right whackos and fundies and how they are DEAD WRONG. Cites an incredible number of Bible verses, calling them out on everything from abortion to poverty.

It's all written, ready to go, looking for a publisher.

it was light but made some very valid points, pointing out the outrageous hypocrisy of the fundies. Like the scene where the fundie throws a bible at the girl screaming "I'm full of love."

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/states/OH/P/00/epolls.0.html

What's 24% of 25%? Something like 6%? That'd be great, knocking us down 6 points with your ad campaign. I'd rather just point out the hypocrisy of trying to fit their morals into a Republican framework.

5. I am with you!
I totally agree. We need a même: THE RELIGIOUS WRONG! Keep saying it. It's true and it's time people realized it. But not only must they realize it, they have to know just how much POWER the religious wrong has over the government right now.

Just like we say * instead of Bush, it's now the religious wrong. I never want to hear anyone say the religious right again. It is their new term. Got it?

11. This is from over at MyDD
Speaks volumes

"Here's something you're going to hear from a lot of races in Bush winning districts. We were swamped with Republican turnout throughout the district...the wave was too high... In Coal Counties where mineworkers had just lost everything, including their pensions people seemed to be voting values more than pocketbook....the Republican base of non-voting Republicans seemed motivated to actually vote ... among new voters in traditional Republican areas and Evangelicals who vote seldom or sporadically vote we were hit hard... direct-mail attacking him as a carpetbagger and as a liberal, and robo-calls by the right to life PAC and the NRCC suggesting the our candidate was for partial birth abortion and gay marriage. These went unanswered by the DCCC ...People were murmuring homophobic messages as they slept. The culture war this year was not fought on the presidential level, they fought it locally and in congressional districts so that Bush could seem clean of the hate much of his party were spewing and thus no one was accountable for hate."

17. That's too hard mentally.
I started listening to the Xtian stations on the radio, in an effort to know the enemy and it's torture.

I am going to try to buzz around churches on Sunday just to figure out what part of Christianity they come from, but it will be hard.

Personally, I enjoy my Jewish neighbors better. They are a couple with their aged father. The father is a retired Rabbi and sociology teacher. I have some nice conversations about the Old Testament with him.

15. It's the bible, stupid
I'm probably going to get major flak for this (especially as a new poster), but here goes...

This election, more than anything, has proven that the republicans have a huge advantage in the south due to a single reason: The bible. They've completely taken it away from the democrats. Even worse, they've taken it away from the millions of practicing moderate religious folks out there and put it into the hands of people who interpret it (how shall I say this...) in a completely lunatic fashion. Hypocracy is rampant among these folks. Example? The bible says "Thou shalt not kill." (Except when Dumbya wants to execute someone)

Here's what we really need to do -- Move in on the religious turf. And bring it into play. Hard. Point out the kind of hypocracy that's out there now. Point out some of the stuff (like, say, stoning women) that may have worked for mankind thousands of years ago, but not anyore. Get this stuff into the open. Argue it. Discuss it.

Are you going to piss off the fundies? Absolutely. But you'll also take back the bible from them, and probably pick up a lot of people who are quietly pissed off about a fringe faction taking away what is so dear to many in this country.

Edited on Wed Nov-03-04 11:33 PM by Mr_Spock
They are almost evil & Satanic the way they completely distort the teachings. They truly are fighting a war on the same terms as the Fundamentalist fanatical Muslims they so loath. Amazing - it's like they are jealous that the fundamentalist Muslims are even more evil than they are. I truly believe this is a religious war now.

24. One idea is to talk about fighting fundamentalism in all religions
Both Islamic and Christian fundamentalism. We can say that's the right way to win the war against terrorism - we will promote progressive ideals - tolerance and pluralism both here and abroad. We can get progressive Islamic voices involved. We can go back to history and show how Christian evangelism was an integral part of inhuman colonial tortures. That way we weaken evangelical forces here and at the same time formulate a real alternate strategy about winning hearts and minds of Muslims worldwide and winning the war against terrorism.

78. I pull the pin on my vest as thus:

Let's go down the list:

Bush did 9/11. Bush shot down the space shuttle. Bush blew up the train in N. Korea trying to kill their leader. Rove is behind the latest bin Laden tape. Bush was going to cancel the elections. He had bin Laden on ice, to trot him out before the election (which, by way, he was supposed to cancel). Kerry was a Bush stooge, who was programmed to throw the election, because they're both Skull & Bones. The war is meant to boost Halliburton stock (STILL trading below its $55 high when BJ Clinton was in the White House...care to explain that?). Bush is planning to put you in camps. They're making plans for two currencies. Exit polls are more accurate than actual vote counts. Edwards' fatassed wife is a fine woman, but Candy Crowley is a hideous fatso. Vietnam vets not named John Kerry are baby killers. Vietname vets named John Kerry who admit to war crimes are not called war criminals, but Bush is. Rush Limbaugh and Ann Coulter should be subject to prosecution for hate crimes, but tax dollars should be spent on Michael Moore lectures.

If that wasn't enough, you agreed that Mother Theresa was evil (be glad to show you your thread on it). Bob Hope was evil. BUT, somehow Eminem and Howard Stern, because they have an uneducated negative word to say about Bush, are exemplary.

You wait with bated breath for Mopaul posts.

The simple, unwashed truth is that you people are, on average, fucking crazy. Rest assured that your pain and anguish has kept a great many people in stitches today, and will do so for many days to come.

Nota bene: your suffering is humorous and heartwarming because you all think you're the second coming of Ben Franklin, and you take yourselves and your place in the world too seriously.

And all along I thought bong hits did just the obvious.

Call me Chimpy Pukethuglican. Pleased to meet you.

41. a well written, albeit inaccurate and poorly premised attack......
i will assume, by your ability to string together complete sentences, that you are a "pocketbook republican". i am certain that you support your side because it is very much in you financial best interests to do so, and if that is the case, i can understand your position, i just dont agree with it. i feel that some things in life are worth paying for....for instance your soul, or genuine pride in your country and its place in the world. All that i take issue with, is your inclination to take a few random, fringe comments made here on DU to represent the democratic party. Obviously you have never spent any significant amount of time on freerepublic.com. If you had, you would surely realize that i could use that forum to describe how the republican party thinks that bill clinton is solely responsible for 9-11. or that john kerry got three purple hearts for intentionally cutting himself with a razor while shaving. to make such assumptions would obviously expose yourself to be a major hypocrite. but then again, isn't that what being a republican is all about?
