How can we go about fighting reich wing churches?
By that, I mean, how can we take these preachers who told their congregations to vote for Bush to task? What is the procedure for reporting these assholes and getting their tax-exempt status taken away? What they are doing is wrong, and it is really hurting this country. So how do we put a stop to it?

1. Attend the service
Attend the service, and drop an envelope with your message to them in the basket. They'll think it's a check. When they open it, they'll see your message. Show up about 40 minutes late, because that's when they do the collections. Give them the finger. Tell them Bush sucks the mustard, and is killing people.

2. As satisfying as that would be, it doesn't quite accomplish what I want
Sounds fun though.

3. I posted this in a similar thread.
What we need to do is cut these cults off at the head. Just like Jim Bakker, they need to be caught doing what they all do, and sent to jail for it. Falwell, Robertson, they are all crooks and con men who are enriching themselves off their followers, and their bizarre revival tent Xtian values can only be discredited when they are themselves discredited. We need to have private investigators on these people 24/7.

Break up these corporate evangilists and let their followers go back to real churches where they can learn something about love, humility, generosity, faithfulness, spirituality and peace.

Who would Jesus execute?

10. Looks like we are thinking the same thing
But, one thing that just occured to me about my idea while I was reading your post ... (is that I have no way out of this sentence, its way too screwed... moving on...)

Here is the biggest challenge: Once we nail these criminals and false prophets, how do we get their congregation to go to a real, non-partisan church and not just rally around their false idol because he has been "wrongly persecuted"?

11. Damned if I know. I'm an atheist myself.
But I think it is crucial that it be real dirt, where they've been caught violating the very principles they preach, so they cannot be held up as being a martyr to the left's vindictiveness.

Even if we are a bit vindictive right now.

4. When midterm elections approach..
Attend mass. Bring with you a recording device of some sort, and record the preacher/deacon/priest/etc advocating for a candidate. NAIL THEM ON IT.

Make copies of the tape.

We should then send copies to the DNC, various media outlets, Congressional representatives, and the IRS.

6. I was thinking about that
So, say we get evidence of a pastor or whatever advocating a candidate. I suppose the media is a natural choice. And then, file a complaint with the IRS, I suppose?

How would be frame such a complaint? Are there any laws/regulations we need to cite?

I really want to start acting on this.

5. Actually,
I think we should first engage in dialogue with hospitable churches who may be able to help influence the newly converted. I was surprised when black ministers got behind the right on the issue of gays . But, they got a minority race to act against a minority group because the dnc took too much for granted and only reached out during runs for election. They were happy to have the attention and flattered to be so well and publically received. DNC dropped the ball and has to start rectifying that TODAY.

7. I really thought of hanging around a fundie church on Sunday
where all the cars leave the parking lot, with a big sign saying that Satan is in charge of your congregation. If I could get a protest group together it would be better, but I dunno. I have to refine the idea.
