"So today I want to speak to every person who voted for my opponent..."
Edited on Thu Nov-04-04 08:58 AM by hexola
To make this nation stronger and better, I will need your support and I will work to earn it. I will do all I can do to deserve your trust. A new term is a new opportunity to reach out to the whole nation. We have one country, one Constitution, and one future that binds us. And when we come together and work together, there is no limit to the greatness of America.

From Bush Acceptance Speech...

Interesting choice of words..."I will work to earn it...all I can do to deserve your trust..." He doesn't ask us to "come together" (like, basically saying "drop it") - but really seems to send a message that reads..."I know you hate me...I'll gonna try."

Which way does Bush go now?...to the left?...preping the country for a Guliani 2008 run? I dont think Bush supporters would rally around Guiliani the same way...unless Bush really tilts left.

he worked himself into quite a humble stance in 2000 when he said something similar. He said something similar in the debates back then about "being humble in our foreign policy" and "compassionate conservatism".

It is a load of horse shit. LIke the misleader himself said..."fool me once..shame on...shame on...fool me..don't-get-fooled-again"

Words are cheap when you don't mean anything by them. Smirk also said in 2000 that he was a uniter not a divider. Then he proceeded to take the country on an unprecedented ultra right wing course of action. Smirk is a liar. He is a user. He'll say anything to get his way. He'll even lie to take this country to war... again.

6. That's cuz he knew he needed that constituency for 2004...
And that's not the same constituency they are going need in 2008 for Guliani. This is unique situation...since Cheney will likely not run...

4. Watch George touch a black person, plant a tree, slop beans on a tray
That's all the reaching out he's done for four full years, and that's all he's ever going to do.

Symbolic bullshit doesn't cut it. You want to "reach out" to us, Chimpy? Try changing your policies. We're not impressed when you visit homeless shelters, schools or groves of trees. We've already seen it, and we already know that it doesn't mean a Goddamned thing.

who think he's god will now be able to say with perfect sincerity that * tried to unite the nation and those damned Dems just won't respect him and unite behind him. It's packaging--he's not moving one iota unless it's farther right where he needs to be to repay the religious right for their turnout.

19. Exactly...
To me, that statement was like one of a 15-year-old girl whose parents just found pot in her bedroom, "I'm going to work to earn back your trust." What horseshit - if he was serious about uniting this nation, he would've done it already. I'm not holding my breath, ** ...

20. He makes me so angry...
He makes me so crazy angry that this morning all I could say while NBC replayed his "we need to be united" speech was "Fuck you" "Fuck you" "Fuck you" "Fuck you" "Fuck you" "Fuck you" "Fuck you" and I never say that (well rarely...). I will most likely be repeating that chant for four more years.

I honestly think I went from the mourning stage of yesterday straight into the angry stage - and I ain't getting over it.

Ever.

Not. Gonna. Happen.

21. Taking Inventory...
It's like a game of chess...you have to take inventory of your opponent - thier position. I'm not suggesting that we co-operate or "unify". But Bush has some politcal capital to play with it...and play he will.

I dont think he will pay back the right at all. They are not going to go easily for a Guliani. They can be satisfied with lip service. Bush needs to go left...and we have to be careful how that carrot gets dangled.

Is there a candidate for 2008 who can make use of Bush's appeal to the religious right??

22. Bush needs to go left? Sorry, I just don't see it.
He lost the PV in 2000, won the Electoral College on a 5-4 vote and governed as a hard-right president. The only check on his dumb-ass policies was fear of the 2004 election.

Why, pray tell, would he move left now? With all restraints removed, it's party time for Grover Norquist, Wall Street & Pat Robertson.

23. This is a special situation...
Since Cheney wont run...they will need to sport an entirely new team. Who? And will they be able to recycle Bush's appeal to the evangelicals? I dont see how they can do it...without the VP as the "candidate in waiting." I think people/evangelicals voted "BUSH" more than they voted "republican".

25. Well, maybe, but the Bible-Thumpiness of the GOP's appeal . . .
. . . extends far beyond Bush.

Pious self-righteousness is the new black. Crushing the wall of separation between church & state is stylish and in. And it permeates the GOP.

Santorum, Brownback, DeMint, Thune, Coburn, senile Jim Bunning, DeLay, Jim Ryun, etc., etc. - all of them won, and all of them are tub-thumpingly and explicitly fundamentalist in their approach to issues and to governing.

It's all Jesus, all the time with the GOP, and it ain't just Bush.

Tell him to stop sreading hate etc. Just flood him with letters. I've thought about it. I mean, he's asking for our support so wtf?

He's not running for re-election anymore. He's in. He has a Republican Senate and House. He can do whatever he wants now.

Jeb in 2008! mark my words. This is a dynasty now. The American people would rather vote against their own interests in order to disenfranchise a small number of people who don't affect their lives at all (gays). It's all over. That's why I'm leaving this country.

Stop pandering to the bigots and misogynists and homophobes ... stop pandering to the big corporations, and filling the media with lies. Stop warmongering for the sake of your corporate buddies' profits. Stop destroying the environment.

In short, stop trying to destroy my wonderful country, Mister President, and maybe we'll talk about unity.

and they refused, so it's OK to royally f**k them now...isn't it"?

The right will repeat ad nauseum: "The Republicans have tried repeatedly to cross the aisle, and they refuse. We can longer help the left. The liberals refuse to listen to reason."

It's coming.

I am not sure how we can evene begin to fight back without an unbiased media.
