Before thinking of who to run in 2008, think about 2006

There are several very important Governor races in 2006. The most important ones are in Ohio and Florida.

I think that if we had a dem governor and sec of state in Ohio results would be much different. Instead of having 1 voting booth per 1000 voters in the heavily dem precincts and 1 voter booth per 200 voters in the heavily republican districts we could have it the other way.

Instead of having dem voters wait for 4 hours to cast vote. In some cases voting was still going on way beyond midnight. This is unacceptable. Let republicans wait for 4 hours and for a change democrats cast their vote in 15 minutes.

So, 2006 Governor races are very important.

Ohio - Taft is unpopular. Vote the bastard out. File a strong dem that can win Ohio back. Then fix the voting probelms, so instead of being 140,000 votes down we are 200,000 votes up in 2008.

Florida - Jeb won't run. We need to win this race desperately if we are to have fair elections in FL. Who could run on the dem side? Could Castor win it?

Colorado - AFAIK Owens is not running. This seat is winnable. CO just elected Salazar as its senator. I believe the trend there favors democrats.

Minnesota - Don't know how popular Pawlenty is but he needs to go. It is embarrassment to have repub governonr in Welstone's state.

Also - keep the governor mansions in AZ, MI, PA, IA, WI. The upper Midwest is very important in the electoral strategy. PA, OH, WI, MI, MN, IA have a total os 85 EV. Win them all and you're 99% sure of victory in 2008.

But I see Ohio and Florida as the most important ones. You want fair elections in these states? You want all votes counted? Elect democrats for governors. Let republicans have some of their own medicine

And after this job is done we can argue who should the 08 nominee be.

we need to think local and think now. It's how the repugs did it and it's how we need to do it.

if we can make gains instead of losses, the perception would be our nominee wouldn't have to be a centrist or come from a red state. This is possible since the consensus is that '05 will be a slow-down year in the economy.
