Ann Richards Posts to the Dean Blog!
Ann Richards Blogs
I'm really happy to be in New Hampshire. The energy in the Dean campaign simply amazes me. I had the pleasure last night to speak to a group of SEIU members who came up from New York this weekend to canvass. They'd been up since 4:30 AM and were facing another early morning, but their energy was incredible. A big part of the reason I decided to endorse Governor Dean is the enthusiasm he's inspired in his supporters, and that enthusiasm was on full display last night.

Ann Richards was Governor of Texas from 1991-1995.

Since the campaign began, Dean has been the one with the strongest message. He is the one that recognized that the race against George Bush in November will be hard fought, and the American people must have a candidate that will go toe to toe with the White House.

It's a close race. Help Howard Dean take back the country for the People: Knock on doors, help with getting out the vote. We need a leader in the White House with good judgement and a proven record of accomplishment.

Ann Richards

1. I did my part today, knocked on about 70 doors today in Pasadena, CA.
Football playoffs didn't help but we still ID'ed about 10 with others totaling about 5.

2. Is that a Fosters can?
I looked at the photo quickly and thought the roll of Dean stickers next to the lap top was a can of Fosters. Fosters or not I've always been a big Ann Richards fan. You go girl. Welcome to NH.

4. Isn't she gorgeous!
And she looks to be having so much fun. I'll bet she never figured she'd be politicking like that!

In one of the reports, she said she'd met Truman. This is so great.

8. She's amazing!
She's done some very cool things. Sarah Weddington- Attorney for Roe was a state rep in Texas. Ann worked on her campaign! She's been in it for a long time. Politics is in her blood.

7. I LOVE that woman!!
Edited on Sun Jan-18-04 10:41 PM by drfemoe
I will never forget her speech at the '88 Democratic Convention when she said B*** the first was "born with a silver FOOT in his mouth". Like daddy like son. She left a budget surplus in Texas after her governorship. Recently she said, if she had known she was going to lose to GW, she would have spent every penny! He has lots of experience driving Americans into debt, and bankrupting companies ..

She is WONDERFUL, a true American Hero.

I just love looking at her. Thanks Slinker.

9. Ann is one of the best people from our state
and she did so much good for us while she had the chance. I remember driving my old clunker station wagon with a bad inspection sticker downtown (wondering if I would get a ticket or stall out) Houston to see her and Lloyd Bentsen when Dukakis was running for president and she was campaigning. I wanted to meet her real bad. She is wonderful and classy and I'm not surprised she would pick Dean and campaign for him.
THANKS ANN!!!!!

10. Wow.

I guess all the people who have lost elections to Bush end up in the Dean camp. Not exactly a good omen.

12. LOL . ya I'd forgotten that part ...
She has a beautiful Texas drawl, and I love listening to her. She was acutally born in Texas, unlike the pretender.

I hope she gives some speeches for Dean. Or joins him on the ticket !!?? ;)

Listen to REAL reporters and not the corporate media who only focused on Dean.

Kerry Shows Courage In Challenging Bush
Thursday, August 8, 2002 By: Joe Conason
New York Observer

>>>>>>
But it was John Kerry who delivered the most interesting, substantive and challenging message. His subject was George W. Bush's shortcomings as a world leader. The New York Times reported that Mr. Kerry "offered a long attack on Mr. Bush's foreign policy," although the paper gave short shrift to the details in the Senator''s speech. What he began to articulate was a Democratic critique of this administration''s blunt and myopic unilateralism, and a vision that restores international alliances to the center of American diplomacy.

He agrees with the objective of removing Saddam Hussein, but objected to the vague plans for what will replace the Iraqi dictatorship. He called the latest arms treaty with Russia a "cosmetic" one that inadequately safeguards decommissioned weapons. He denounced the "Cold War" approach to North Korea that has undone the progress achieved by the Clinton administration. He expressed scorn for the administration''s disengagement from the Middle East crisis before Sept. 11.
>>>>>>>
He is, however, no naïïve internationalist who abhors military force. As he has done before, Mr. Kerry wondered aloud why the President didn't muster sufficient firepower in Afghanistan to destroy Al Qaeda''s army when the chance arose at Tora Bora.
>>>>>>
There is, however, at least one benefit for Mr. Kerry in speaking out on those faraway places and problems. While his rivals sound as if they''re campaigning for the offices they already occupy, he sounds as if he is running for President.
>>>>>>
Whether Mr. Kerry can engage the electorate in a discussion of America''s global responsibilities is far from certain. His own dispassionate style may hinder him. Yet he deserves great credit for reclaiming international leadership for his party when others cannot or will not.

***********************
In July 2002, Howard Dean sided with Bush over Kerry who for months had hammered Bush on his strategy at Tora Bora and its failures that allowed Bin Laden and most of Al Qaeda to escape. It was Dems like Dean who kept Bush's poll numbers up by agreeing with his leadership in the war on terror. Of course, that was BEFORE he saw the antiwar crowds grow.

MR. RUSSERT: Do you believe the military operation in Afghanistan has been successful?

GOV. DEAN: Yes, I do, and I support the president in that military operation.

MR. RUSSERT: The battle of Tora Bora was successful?

GOV. DEAN: I’ve seen others criticize the president. I think it’s very easy to second-guess the
commander-in-chief at a time of war. I don’t choose to engage in doing that.
