Remind me: Did Bush win by abandoning his base?
Bush won by reaching out to Unions, African-Americans, pro-choice women, teachers, low middle class and poor Americans and homosexuals?

So that means that to win we need to reach out to rich corporate men, evangelical Christians and war hawks?

Sounds reasonable to me.

1. not all bases are equal
some can just sit on them, some have to take them away.

2. many lower middle class and poor americans are part of Bush's base

as they are also evangelical hristians and war hawks. same goes for some union members.
