I hereby endorse Evan Bayh for President of the United States of America

U.S. Senator Evan Bayh came to Washington after serving two terms as Indiana 's governor, where he had built one of the strongest, most financially secure state economies in the nation. He brought with him a remarkable record of sound fiscal management and economic growth, having built a $1.6 billion surplus for Hoosiers without once raising taxes.

He just won re-election for his second term in the senate from Indiana. Senator Bayh has since established himself as a leading mainstream voice in the Senate, bringing with him the common sense to work with legislators from both sides of the aisle to make progress on a wide range of issues important to all Americans.

Bayh was born in Shirkieville, Indiana. He attended Indiana University, where he graduated with honors in business economics in 1978, and the University of Virginia, where he received his law degree in 1981. Of everything he has done, Senator Bayh says he is most proud of the responsibility he assumed in November of 1995, as the father of twin sons Beau and Nicholas – a joy he shares with his wife, Susan.

A democrat from a red state who just won an easy re-election, and has experience as both a governor and senator; it would be perfect.

1. Did he vote for the War authorization?
If he did....then he need not apply.

2. He also voted for almost all the Bush tax cuts and the war
Look, he's a Democrat. He's no Zell Miller. He's fine as a Senator. But I don't think he's acceptable as a nominee of the party. The nominee should be ideologically in the middle of the Democratic party, not at the right end of it. The President has to represent ALL Democrats, not just the center/conservative wing.

Keep Bayh in the Senate. Maybe if he moves somewhat left he'll be more acceptable.

3. Not thrilled about him, but if he'll win, okay.
Don't know much about him.
I seem to remember disliking him intensely for a short time, but I don't remember why.

I'd have to see him in action, stumping and such.
The current voting public doesn't care about experience.

5. Can we get people without a voting record to distort?
I think we've learned that senators are way too easy to bash.

10. Oh HOLY HELL no !!!
Are you from Indiana ?
Do you know ANYTHING about this man ?

I'm in Indy and worked for State gov't, and saw firsthand some of Evans' 'governing' ability. :puke:

He is nothing but a pretty boy with an empty head and a stuffed shirt living off his daddy's legacy because he's entirely incapable of holding a real job.

Sound like someone whose living at 1600 right now ? YOU BETCHA.

11. Second term in the senate. No thank you
Haven't we learned from Kerry already? They'll portray him as a flip flopper, trust me.
So Mark Warner is the way to go!

14. This guy is too conservative
It's ok to be a right-leaning Democrat, but not if you want to be president. Somebody like Mark Warner or Bill Richardson would be a better choice. And if we have somebody with a voting record, it better be Feingold.

15. Maybe not as bad an idea as first appears....
He's almost "Republican". Republicans that felt uneasy about the righ-wing candidate, whomever it is, would feel very comfortable with Evan Bayh.

Democrats such as DUers, could push as left or progressive an agenda as they wished during the campaign, if we could get everyone to unite behind the Democrat at the end and vote for him, even if it were Evan Bayh.

Tha may be the winning strategy for the next election. Either way, damn good suggestion. :)

18. Unfortunately, serving in the Senate disqualifies him
The last thing we should do is nominate someone who has served in Congress. He'd be a good VP, though.

20. Evan Bayh. . .EVAN BAYH????!!!!
BWAHHHHAAAAAHHHAAAAHAAAAHAA!!!!!

Fuggedaboudit. As a resident I can tell you he would not do anything to make the base vote for him. He is a DINO.

Let's stop pandering. If we want a liberal party and a liberal candidate then have the stones to nominate her/him and stand by your choice. Let's stop picking presidents because of how you think people might accept her/him. Have a plan for decency and justice and economic fairness and lead the voters to it.

Evan Bayh....PLEASE!
