Glitch gave Bush extra votes in Ohio
Glitch gave Bush extra votes in Ohio

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- An error with an electronic voting system gave President Bush 3,893 extra votes in suburban Columbus, elections officials said.

Franklin County's unofficial results had Bush receiving 4,258 votes to Democrat John Kerry's 260 votes in a precinct in Gahanna. Records show only 638 voters cast ballots in that precinct.

Bush actually received 365 votes in the precinct, Matthew Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections, told The Columbus Dispatch.

State and county election officials did not immediately respond to requests by The Associated Press for more details about the voting system and its vendor, and whether the error, if repeated elsewhere in Ohio, could have affected the outcome.

Bush won the state by more than 136,000 votes, according to unofficial results, and Kerry conceded the election on Wednesday after acknowledging that 155,000 provisional ballots yet to be counted in Ohio would not change the result. (Full Ohio results)

The Secretary of State's Office said Friday it could not revise Bush's total until the county reported the error.

1. Did correcting the glitch lower Bush's count by 136, 222?
No?

Nevermind.

2. That is only ONE county's glitch and the number you gave was for the
whole state so it is like comparing apples and salmon, imo. This county was out of whack and there may very well be others and, if so, there may well be enough 'vote glitches' to change bush's count dramatically but who will know unless there is a valid investigation. It amazes me that there are those who would like to suppress even the possibility of an investigation, I don't understand it, to be honest.

3. Get back to me when you find the other 35 counties with glitches
Ooops, they don't all use the same means of counting votes? This wasn't a touchscreen issue and there was an audit trail?

Nevermind.

5. Why do you not want it investigated? I don't understand that!

If it is investigated and there is nothing there, nothing is lost and you will have been proven right that there was no voter theft. Investigation of the 'anomalies' is a win/win, imo.

There was more than one county that used e-voting and those could well be where 'anomalies' would be found but, again, one must investigate to find out.

Edited to add:

To me, this is not unlike the awesome investigation you took on regarding bush's medals. You investigated it to the end, regardless of what the outcome would be and that was very admirable.

6. Investigate it all you want
There is no there there, but if you feel like expending time on it to no avail that's your choice.

Believe me, I know what it's like spending time investigating what I thought was a promising issue only to hit a brick wall. Call me when you hit yours and we can commiserate.

8. Exactly! If there is no there 'there' then this is one issue that can be.
put to bed but one must investigate just as you did before the facts can come out on one side of the issue or the other.
