what about Bush and civil unions?

Has anyone made sense out of Bush taking the Howard Dean position on civil unions?

Shouldn't there be more discussion about Bush being more liberal on civil unions than Joe Lieberman, who I believe was the sole primary candidate to oppose civil unions.

Seems like a remarkable development that Bush suddenly took that position, and yet I have yet to hear a single "analyst" address this shocking turn of events, especially with all the talk about how Bush's strong committment to "values" gets the credit for his reelection.

2. I can't find any evidence of that

here's a link that has Lieberman as the only candidate that does not "explicitly" support civil unions.

And I recall a primary debate where Joe was absent, where every candidate took exactly the same position in support of civil unions. And I recall an interview with Lieberman after the debate where he took the opposite position from the rest.
