Forget about '08, it's '12!
Up until a week or so ago, Kerry was our man, and many saw Edwards or Hillary as maybe the next in line. The election results tell us that K/E did not sufficiently motivate black voters. Hillary will not win the heartland.

What if we punt in '08 like the repugs did in '96 (send up a dinosaur sure to lose) and allow Barack Obama to build credibility in the Senate, get reelected, then run in 2012?

Monitor his voting record carefully over the next 8 years so that he will be able to stand on it with impunity.

What do you think?

and he didn't. We needed more in Florida particularly, and more was anticipated.

Obama would bring them out.

11. That's what I've been thinking about!
1994: Congressional Republican sweep

1998: Democratic sweep

2002: Republican sweep

2006: Something tells me it will be our turn again!!

We shouldn't put all of our eggs in the presidential basket again. We have a much more realistic chance of taking Congress than winning the Presidency. Plus, if the Supreme Court justices can hang on for just 2 more years, a Democratic majority will save the Supreme Court!

3. No. We can win 08
we have a long list of Governors who could beat their candidate. It's not exactly like they have another GWB or Reagan to draw out their base like this time around. The Republicans aren't going to draw 59 million voters to the poll every single time. You people are forgetting how damn close this thing was. GWB had to prove to evangelicals that he was a man of faith--in their eyes--before they'd turn out for him. If they nominate Rudy or McCain they'll have to win with independents, unless McCain or Rudy are willing to flip flop on things they've said and done in the past. These same voters won't show up for them.

Better look at it and see how much work has to be done just to hold onto the remaining seats we have, before you start building your dream teams.

12. Listen, Barack Obama is clearly a rising star
But he is by no means our Messiah. This sort of defeatist attitude is not helpful. We have to look forward not to 2012, not to 2008, but 2006. We have to look forward to Supreme Court battles, judicial appointments, and standing firm against the Radical Right's agenda. This battle is not joined every four years (and certainly not every 8 years) but is a continuous struggle. The repugs know it, and we have to figure that out. Politics is not a game, it is about life and death and our future. Thus, we must treat every political action as either helping or damaging our future, and must respond appopriately.

If we don't win the Presidency until 2012, we will lose possibly the entire Supreme Court. It will be our own little fundamentalist, theocratic judiciary, in line with Iran's. No, we must fight now and win now, and keep on winning.
