Epiphany: Arlen Specter is the Colonel Cathcart of Bush's Army.
As in Catch-22, Specter is trotted out when his side is just within reach of its goal. His mission: to tell its supporters the goal has just been extended.

First, it was not enough for the Republicans to have a Supreme Court Majority; they needed the Congress.

Then it was not enough to have the Congress; they needed the Presidency.

Then it was not enough to have the Presidency; they needed a mandate.

Now Specter announces that it's not enough to have a mandate; they need a super majority in the Senate.

It's all part of the same scheme. The people who most of all do not want Roe v Wade overturned are the Republican politicians. They need the issue in order to dupe the well-meaning but easily lead into voting against their own best interests.
