5. If Rethugs
have such magical powers, why did Pete Coors lose? To answer your question, I just think all this magical thinking around here is counter productive.

4. Since we have an independent media with a strong tradition of integrity
that is in no way in hock to entrenched corporate or political interests, I have NO DOUBT that any and all allegations of "irregularities", particularly in relation to electronic voting, will be thoroughly and competently examined by an aggressive press corps and revealed in full to the public..

(KAFF!!!) ...He's right. I DO need to back off the pipe.

7. There was fraud in
2000, fraud in 2002. So there's fraud now. Won't change anything. We've been yelling about fraud for 4 years and nothing happened. I just don't see anything happening now either.

THis is how it works:

"There's fraud!" a whole bunch of Democrats proclaim.
"No there isn't!" say the Republicans.
"NOthing to see here, move along!" says the media.

If there is fraud someone besides a bunch of Democrats will have to not just say it, but prove it.

I'm not going to hold my breath.

8. I voted possibly
But, this thing has got me spooked. Never in all my life have I seen such stillness and quiet from a "losing" side's leadership.

Counterproductive? Nah, you could say the same about Woodward and Bernstein who broke the Watergate story. Maybe now, even if they don't get busted, some kind of movement will take place to ban the boxes.

And that would be a great achievement.

9. I don't see it having any immediate effect
Let's say a solid case for vote fraud is presented in court. OK, then what?

1) It is going to be prohibitively hard to win such a case, even with good evidence.

2) Even if the case is won, the remedy may not be adequate to prevent the current results from taking effect.

3) Even if remedies are proposed, triumphant republicans will not roll over and accept them. They will appeal as far as they can.

4) Meanwhile, the mass media will drag out the "sore loserman" meme they used to mock us back in 2000.

The only way to circumvent this is with a national grass-roots movement on a scale comparable to the Civil Rights movement. We would need to mobilize millions of people to take to the streets over this, and the whole time the media will be telling us how petty and spiteful we are, how the country doesn't want another contested election, how not even John Kerry wants to go through with it. We will require strong leadership and eloquent spokespeople if we are to persist.

The best case scenario is a long painful uphill struggle. Are you ready to commit to it?

10. goddamn it
stop thinking in terms of Kerry and thinking about what is good for America and how we do elections.

And about how it is wrong to steal.
