Poll question: Is America Ready For An African American President?
Jeez, as much as I would love to say 'Yes', and I certainly am ready, this election proves that bigotry and hatred are still alive and well in the United States, so I just don't know.

2. Yeah.
If it's someone like Clarence "the Uncle" Thomas, forget it.

4. Maybe
I think we should run one anyway, just so America can get a glimpse in the mirror and see what assholes they are. When all the race stuff starts flying, it might really make people realize how much bigotry is still alive. It won't be able to hide any longer.

5. Obama
The rural voters aren't as racist as you would think. I think he would get some Christian conservative 'white guilt' votes.

He was so awesome at the convention. If he could bottle that, 2008, baby.

9. Exactly
He would have to start planning today to run in 08...

He would have to announce sometime in 06, two years into his first six year term...

14. We need Obama in the Senate, ferchrissakes
Let him serve his state, rise in prominence, and prove his abilities.

In the meantime, let's make sure we don't see the 2006 election stolen.

Bigotry and Hatred aren't just for Republicans anymore.
Look at this board. I'd pity the African American who ran and lost.

10. Sorry to say you are right

Kerry was rich and from the North East.
He was rich and kind and intelligence.
He was still not good enough for the republicans.
And for many Democrats.

It could still be Colin Powell if he ran on the Republican ticket.
I would not be thrilled but he is African American and WAS loved by the recons.

As of this moment, he could not be worse than GWB. :( So sad

20. I think Colin Powell could have won
many people who voted against gay marriage would have voted for Colin Powell

12. Absolutely!
But not Al Sharpton.

Colin Powell could have walked away with the Presidency. His wife didn't want him to run.

And he's still more popular nationwide than Shrub...even after the UN debacle.

Obama has a bright future.

13. Obama is a baby boy
Obama is a baby boy. If you think Edwards was a baby, forget Obama; besides we need him in the Senate where he's going and needs to stay for the next 12 years.

America is ready for a ticket with Powell on it. If in his post-first term- torqued off anger at Bush and Company he defected to the Demos and joined up with the likes of a Wes Clark or a Joe Biden, it would make 2008 interesting indeed....I know one thing, we are not going to want Hillary on the 2008 ticket....

15. IMO a Hispanic would go over better...
for most Americans.

I think Bill Richardson would get more votes than Obama.

I'm not just saying that because I'm biased, me being a Hispanic, because I obviously am, but I also believe it.

16. Humm what would happen if we tried to run a Gay person for President
I'm honestly wondering what the shock would be. Could you imagine the Fundies having heart-attacks because a Gay man was telling them what to do?

18. Barack Obama will have a shot in 2012
Think---massive black turnout, plus the united Dem party
I think if he was more well known in 2004 he could have won

22. I bet many of those 51% would have voted for Keyes or Powell
We can't accuse all Republicans of being Trent Lott types. I know some Republicans and I think all of them would have voted for a black republican, provided he cut taxes and talked tough after 9/11

23. I'm convinced Sharpton could do it..
He just needs to cut that hair. Seriously.

He is a very powerful, funny, charismatic speaker, probably the best I heard at any of the anti-war rallies. He is a religious man, and he has conviction.

Just get a haircut, Al. PLEASE!
