Flogging a corpse
I see very very few of you have learned anything of practical value since Tuesday night. All this analysis and handwringing, scapegoating, and yes, whining, is just flogging a rotting corpse - aka The American Pseudodemocracy. Or: One Nation Under Their Gawd.

You're entitled to the illusion that you can make a difference on the American political landscape. But you can't. Unless you have lots of money, influence, and a direct line to your senator's home phone, you're better off leaving that world behind, and clean up your own backyard. Still the only place any of us will make a difference.

Red states, blue states, civil war, DNC, DLC, Clinton, Kerry, Dean, the media, the fraud, the uncounted votes, the recounts, the SCOTUS, boycotts, Obama, Osama, blah blah fucking BLAH. Please don't get your splooge all over my monitor. It is just so much wanking off.

Get off your asses and clean up your lives first. You can't save the world, let alone the mythical 'American democracy' you naively mourn.

Shit, this forum has achieved levels of dumb not seen since the primaries.

1. I agree and disagree
I don't think we have no power to change anything, but I think you are 100% correct in your advice that we clean up our own houses before trying to fix the nation. I find it incredible that people on DU continue to contribute to the RNC through their purchases of cable tv, beer and other alcoholic beverages, etc

They're willing to toss gays, women, minorities, southerners, and millions of others overboard, but they cling to their cable.

3. You posted a thread the other day
stating that you had come to this decision for yourself. No one can argue with that.
However, you have no right to be angry with others who choose to continue trying to have an influence. If you want to choose to focus only on making your immediate corner of the world the best you can then that's fine and I can't blame you but please refrain from telling the rest of us that we have to do the same.

5. I can be angry if I want
I am not telling anyone what to do. Just mocking those who keep flogging the corpse. I find it kind of amusing, more than angering, but even if I am being a bitch, it is my right.

20. Sounds as if you've decided on what the East Germans called
"inner migration"--disengagement from public life.

4. So aside from cleaning up our own lives(?) what else are we supposed to
be doing?

6. The angst of the last 4 years and despair of the last 4 days
is finally over. The eerie sense of calm I feel is undoubtedly temporary but I now realize we're on our own and although I don't know exactly what's coming, I know it's gonna be ugly.

Hope is not on the way.

I'm actually rather amused that I spent months listening intently to four multi-millionaires, who in varying degrees supported slaughter and plunder and concentration of power and wealth, and hoped that two of them had my best interests in mind and the best interests of those even more vulnerable than myself.

George Carlin was right. We naively believe we have a choice in this country. Our choices boil down to 'paper or plastic' 'smoking or non-smoking.'

14. Hey there
I'm still around more or less.

George Carlin and Zombywoof, not in that particular order, my two fave political gurus.

Oh and throw in Jon Stewart as a distant third.

7. You council us with "wisdom" from your nihilist high-horse?
"You're entitled to the illusion that you can make a difference on the American political landscape. But you can't."

Shit on that. Go stare in a fucking mirror and tell yourself how useless you are. Don't have the hubris to try and drag us into the whirlpool of your ineffectiveness all the while claiming it's wisdom.

"Shit, this forum has achieved levels of dumb not seen since the primaries."

Oh, I'll say.

10. 'counsel'
At least spell correctly if you are going to break DU rules and personally attack me. :P

We can make a difference in our community. I do. You only read what you wanted to read in my post. A nihilist I am not.

I find it HIGHLY amusing that so many of you get angry over an OPINION from someone you have never met. LOL!

Also, the angry replies come from the wanking floggers. Surprise!

12. Hoping with one hand
and hoarding with the other.

That's been my M.O. the last year or so. Getting more politically active than I've ever been in my life--damn, talk about energized! Everyone I talked to, even in my conservative town, agreed that we were living a farce and that things had to change.

Yet no one wanted to talk about voter fraud--let's just hope it doesn't happen and besides, if it does, the high-falutin' lawyers will handle it, all-righty.

Yeah. Right. Kerry rolled over before all the votes were even counted. Why is that? Anyone know? I'm eerily calm, too. Now it's a game of watch, wait and see how long it takes them to tear it all down.

Ta ta, I'm off to get my mandatory health screening!!!

</sarcasm>

9. it's hard to argue with the man
who serves coffee and pancakes but, i have to disagree on one point.
no one person can save the world. the lot of us may not be able to either i can't see the harm in trying. The greater world affects my Life.
I am part of it whether I like its current condition or not. Giving up is giving in and I'm will not accept "their" world.

oh, my ass and my life are just fine, thank you very much! :loveya:

13. you know better
I do believe in local differences, as I said here and the other day in GD.

Of course, my local thread got 6 replies and disappeared, and yet my "I am stepping off this hayride" thread, posted only minutes earlier, got over 80 at last count.

DU thrives on hot button threads. Serious ones get buried faster than frozen stem cell embryos in Ashcroft's ice chest.

No harm in ignoring America and its greedy, reality-show watching, bible-gripping ways either. I have better things to do. ;-)

15. ....
I hate politics. Always have. Always will. The issues are what keep me motivated. I read your thread "all poltics is local" thread. I meant to post to it. I met Tip as a youngster. It was true then and it's now.

" No harm in ignoring America and its greedy, reality-show watching, bible-gripping ways either." -- too true. And by doing so you're effecting change.

American democracy is not a myth to me, it is a priceless heirloom that lives in our hearts and minds.

Your post is offensive and unpatriotic IMHO.
