We Need To STOP Being Terrified To PISS OFF Republicans!
They aren't afraid to piss us off when they nominate their candidates, and they still win! (voter fraud aside)

It's time we stop talking all this "You can't nominate _________, they're a republican's wet dream!" or "OMG do you honestly think you're going to win a single southern state with _________ as the nominee?"

Word to the wise: only divisive candidate ever bring about legitimate change, be it good or bad.

2. I have very little (no) interest of how Repubs and their voters "approve"
or "disapprove" of what we say and do, what candidates are selected.

If we do things that they don't like or will ridicule (which is everything), we might stop our string of winning Presidential and Senate races! Um... oh yeah. Never mind.

The smart people on this board don't want to help the Pugs by nominating the worst possible candidates...

6. its not about pissing off Republicans
Its about attracting the voters we need to win. We piss of Republicans the most when we win and that's what I want to do.

11. Well put, Dave in MD!
My sentiments exactly. We will take very few votes from the Repugs in the best of circumstances. Who cares? We need to get the Dems out and voting. To my surprise, the Bushies did a better job of that than we did. They got more new voters out than we thought they could. We need to learn from that - not by trying to attract those same people, but by attracting the comparable progressive population who isn't voting.

(Plus all the fraud helped them, of course)

point that they have to reconsider their positions. We are losing the battle for convential wisdom because our FIGHTERS are not being heard. This is first and foremost a problem with our leadership. They still think pandering will work. It doesn't. Without the backing of core convictions, our attempts to reach the "middle" have come across as desperate and weak.

On edit: It's not the Republicans we have to go after. It's the elements of their party that any goodhearted person would reject. The bigots, the racists, the warmongers, the bean counters, the corporate sociopaths, etc. We have to highlight this ugliness, or they will never even begin to consider us as an alternative.

19. I don't disagree that we have to attack them
I'm a consultant who believes in going negative hard. We need to present a populist message and attack them for being out of the mainstream and for being corrupt. At the same time, we need to present a message that's appealing to a majority of Americans.

than the people we've been hiring. Its time to give a new crop of consultants a shot instead of hiring these retreads who keep losing elections.

Kerry was a bad choice because he's not very liberal yet is easily labelled as such (worst of both worlds). If you're saying Dean would have been a better choice, I'm not sure that makes sense because he'd have that exact same problem. Ideally we'd want a liberal candidate with a conservative image... I personally think there was one in the primaries, and the failure to make this obvious choice was quite tragic.

20. We have to control the image of our own candidates.
Edited on Sat Nov-06-04 07:48 PM by FubarFly
With this current crop of leadership it doesn't matter who we run. If we let the pugs define us, they win. Even if Kerry won this would be true. A one-time victory can't mask the fact the trend is still going Republican and has been for quite some time. Our long-term strategies suck to a phenomenal extent.
