I wouldn't be surprised to see a "rabbit" or two in the next 6 months

For those who don't know, during the Cold War, a 'rabbit' was slang for a person who wanted help defecting from the East Bloc.

My guess is that its Chafee and Specter.

Chafee is supposedly mucho pissed at Bush for ideological reasons, Specter might jump ship or resign if he doesn't get his Judiciary Committe chairmanship, either way the net effect is that we gain the seat.

Which means in effect we'll really have only lost one senate seat

-6 (SD,SC,NC,LA,FL,GA)
+2 (CO,IL)
+1 (Zell's seat is in actuality a wash)
------
-3 seats
+1 (Chafee)
+1 (Specter or appointed Dem)
------
-1 seat

nobody wants to be part of the minority...

their constituents would crucify them...

if every moderate left the Pug Party and joined us we are only at 49.....

Specter'd do it out of pure spite if they took away his hard earned Judiciary Chairmanship just to please the fundamendalists after working for it 5 terms in the senate. As he sees it, he's been loyal to the party, the party should be loyal to him.
