Kos: How Bush made better use of his e-mail lists
Kos makes the point that most of Kerry's e-mails dealt with raising money, while the majority of Bush's e-mails dealt with issues/events and that Kerry e-mails were probably ignored because people got tired of the constant requests for money. Here are the stats:

Give money: 57% of Kerry e-mails compared to 8% of Bush
GOTV: 29% of Kerry e-mails vs. 38% of Bush's.
Issues/Events: 14% of Kerry's e-mails vs. 54% of Bush's.

1. Then again, without the money, it wouldn't have been close
Bush can rely on other sources for campaign cash. Kerry, to compete, needed to get all of us to chip in as often as possible.

I agree, though, that the constant drumbeat for money did cause me to tune out the campaign e-mails.

But I suspect they also were a great source of much-needed cash.

7. They were better prepared than us, period
I have read online political articles for years, with frequent mention that the GOP was piling up email addresses in amazing numbers. One CSPAN panel a couple of months ago indicated the Republicans had something like 4 times the number of emails addresses that we did.

I only receive emails from the DNC. Several of my GOP friends have told me they got emails from individual candidates as well as the RNC.

Very true, every DNC email was a beg for cash. In the final two weeks they started telling us to get involved by GOTV. I had already signed up, for the final day. It got to be like my alma mater, which now sends at least a dozen donation requests per year. After a while, they become so annoying I toss them out routinely and almost wish I schooled someplace else.

I deleted almost every DNC email because the title was predictably generic and boring.
