Holy crap! Another tin foil hat theory...
Ok, this sounds nuts but here goes.

The whole vote fraud scandal has me a tad worried. I have noticed, from sources that I can't remember off the top of my head, that DU has been getting alot of attention lately. Is it out of the realm of possiblity that we could possibly be being infiltrated and these Rovian wingnuts are setting us up for a fall??

I know that there has been alot of instances of BBV voting fraud mentioned on this board. I am not discounting any of this information. However, these bastards are DAMN SMART!! We know first hand what they are capable of.

We have to be right on this. I hope that we aren't being duped. Why would Obermann, on MSNBC (run by GE, major defense supplier), risk this kind of reporting? It just seems way too convenient.

Ok, I'm done. Flame on.

1. No Flame
Rovians who want to take DU down have never actually been to DU.

3. If there was no fraud, why would they bother?
There are 55,ooo of us, they got 59,000,000 votes (allegedly), so why bother to debunk a small outfit like ours. If we are wrong, it is more to their advantage that we waste our time.

They are too busy planning the killing of gays and the saving of cells.

6. When Elizabeth Edwards posted here
We entered into the "no small outfit" territory.

I am THRILLED that she reads and posts here but don't kid yourself the bushites took notice IMO

12. The more people visit here, the more good thoughts they absorb by osmosis.
If Rove and crew want to come, cool. But really, only so many people can actually be Rove operatives. And if they did plant something here -- it would, like most stuff posted here, be scrutinized by the cagey DU vets and jumped on by DU airheads. I'm somewhere in the middle, therefore I wait till something passes the smell test of some of our more eggier heads. I would advise folks to avoid aggresive rants that can be misinterpreted. Remember that poor guy who got locked up a few years for making that Burning Bush joke in a bar?

4. I have also thought of this
No flame here...nothing is out of the realm of possibilty.

I think W stole the election but that doesn't mean there isn't BS afloat to difuse the impact against bush--this would be a typical Rove's type scam.

5. I told you it was tin foil and I might be nuts, jeesh
I just know how well they play the disinformation game. We may be small member wise, but it just seems that we are getting alot of attention lately.

Chip at us a little at a time.

7. If it benefits us, blame Rove.
By that logic, any story not adopted immediately by the mainstream media and only picked up by bloggers and online political junkies would qualify as a Rovian tactic. The larger the allegation, the larger the likelihood that Rove was, in fact, behind it.

That cannot possibly be true; and since you do not qualify your statement with any other evidence of a Rove set-up aside from, "This is good for Democrats, therefore, an evil Republican genius must be screwing with us," I don't see any reason to pursue that line of logic into the abyss it creates.

I think we need to follow a set of stricter criteria for establishing what is and isn't a Rove trick; and I have a feeling that discrediting a message-board by floating out information about possible e-vote fraud would not be high on his "to do" list.

8. Good points! But,
I didn't actually mean "Rove" set it up. I guess I use "Rovian" in a more general sense for the dirty tricks the RW employs.

I just can't see how NBC would let Keith talk about this.

Hey, I'm pretty jaded and probably not too rational with my thinking. Shit, the last 4 years and probably the next 4 have and will be nothing less than a skull-f**k on all of us.

Sometimes it takes it's toll. I guess I'm just overcautious.

:silly:

9. Who to trust, who to trust...
Well, I agree that we should be cautious, but even the most self-deluded denizens of the right-wing still do cost/benefit analysis when they're deciding who to screw and how hard.

10. We're a feisty bunch, and they know that
Another "Dan Rather" incident and our will starts to break down. They can make us look even more radical and out of touch with our base. They can make us look however they want us to.

Remember, they have the power and resources now to make it so.

Just a thought, disinformation CAN work both ways.

I want to believe, really I do. Just please understand my reservations.

11. I understand, but
E-vote fraud has been covered by Pacifica stations as well - long before it ended up plastered over the front pages of DU. Bev Harris is a trustworthy individual, and the security exploits detailed in her investigations are painfully real.

This message-board would be well-served to have wide public recognition worthy of character assassination, but I tend to believe that the Rovians in this administration have bigger fish to fry.

13. We have too many "research hounds" to successfully launch a
disinformation campaign. We were coming up with holes in "Rathergate's" memos as soon as they were published. With all the "internets" out there, it would be hard to start much more than a rumour. We caught on to the Jessica Lynch BS the day after it happened even though the news people didn't get it until months later. You got a sharp bunch of people here.

Just my opinion.
