3. I don't find anti-woman messages funny.
There is something quite mysoginist, possibly homophobic as well, and odd about calling Edwards a woman - this is not a progressive cartoon at all!

10. No it isn't, it's a jab
McGruder has a bias towards Edwards because he's a southern white democrat, and he doesn't care about showing respect to him if it fills a crappy little cartoon and he can get paid

8. What a dick McGruder can be
I guess Braun and Sharpton are so much more "heroic" than Edwards because they're "of color" which means they automatically get more respect from him.

I really have lost most of my admiration for him before this, but now it's all gone.

No, I'm really not an uptight person at all, and this isn't fake outrage, it's just another example to me that people like McGruder are narrow-minded knobs

The Wonder Twins had nothing even resembling real super powers and were always being saved by the real Super Friends.

Edited to add: including Wonder Woman!

Is that a whiff of sexism in the air? If Edwards cant take a joke... you know the rest. Being compared to Wonder Woman is NOT an insult.
Unless you have really low opinions of women and icons like WW.

Let's try not to get overly PC. Don't pretend that McGruder didn't intend to imply unmasculinity in Edwards, which is always an insult.

I guess one isn't aloud to be a good looking white southernor in a presidential primary dominated in large parts by angry leftist stooges like McGruder

then you cannot understand the humor contained within the cartoon.

In other words, since you do not understand the references to the Super Friends, you will never get the joke.

15. Realistically, it wasn't as bad as it seems
If he really wanted to make fun of Edwards, he'd be Robin - the Boy Wonder; a peripheral character... just like CMB and Al are the Wonder Twins, about as peripheral as it gets.

Here's the question... who's everybody else?

Dean should probably be Superman, since everything bounces off of him.

Just because I didn't watch the show, (the cartoon says JUSTICE LEAGUE by the way) doesn't mean I don't know of it and who's who in it.

He's basically calling Edwards a pussy, which is bullshit, and I think it's wrong for him to demean Edwards with nothing to back it up.

26. I don't like the anti-Edwards attack,+ I don't like any unfair/untruthful
attacks on anybody. If you think that word is a slur, I'll edit it out, but I really don't think it's a an "anti-woman slur" the C word is, but defenetly not that word. Sorry, I use the casual diction of the male 18-29 demographic, and if you're an older woman or something I can understand if you didn't want me using it. But I wasn't calling someone it, I was illustrating what the cartoon was basically implying. That Edwards was a wuss or a fairy, or some other demasculizing term

41. yes Bombtrack
using a slang term for a female body part to illustrate demasculinization is offensive to me. I hope you can see why. I understand the "causal diction" but that doesn't make it okay, in my opinion. I also hate the term "wife beater" for the sleveless tee shirt - because it makes light of something so wrong. I hate the way a lot of terms insulting to women are in vogue.

On the playing fields, boys are taught to use words like pussy for wimpy players or losers. They're told "you hit like a girl." So the when worst insult for a boy is being compared to a girl, or to slang terms for her genitals - we have the seeds of misogyny being planted.

Yes, I am an older woman - and one who's been living with inequality and sexism my entire life. I wish we could do better, here at DU and in the world.

Thanks for listening.

25. Yep, and she had stealth technology during WWII
Her invisible airplane and her magic lasso. Not to mention her magic bracelets.

Being Wonder Woman is a hell of a lot better than Friday's cartoon was for Gephardt. Being Aquaman is much worse than being Wonder Woman. And MacGruder threw sexist remarks away by making Carol Mosley Braun one of the Wonder Twins instead of Wonder Woman, too.

A-man went in as the quintessential underdog.

Namor can fly, has super strength and reflexes.

A-man can swim and talk to fish. Nobody gave him a chance against Imperius Rex. And he still pulled it out by effectively using what he was given.

I'd buy the Plastic Man reference to Clark, making Kerry Batman.

Maybe Lieberman would be Wonder dog, the comedy relief of the Super Friends?

Oh, and by the way, the Aquaman as the Batman of the sea reference would make Namor the Superman of the sea. ;)

29. But that wasn't what he was tying to convey, it's a joke because she's a
woman. It wouldn't have been funny (to anyone, not just people who don't like Edwards) if he had said Superman or Batman or Aquaman

Because they have penises, and Wonder Woman doesn't, and you know that it's a shot at his manhood

Just as if somebody called Janet Reno a man

31. Wonder woman is more powerful than Batman
and has better technology.

Batman was referenced as Clark on Friday, so here, the Boondocks characters are placing a higher regard for Edwards than for Clark.

But since Clark is not the Dean "Superman" I guess that's a huge slam against Edwards.

It was obviously an inside joke for people who are in the know about comics.

Just because you don't get the humor and subtext, doesn't mean it wasn't funny.

I think it was a very nice comparison for Edwards. They guy who nobody expects to be nearly as powerful as the Alpha Dog.

That's why I want to see a Dean/Edwards '04 ticket.

47. Because I know what the justice league is and who the main characters are
and it's obvious that it's supposed to be funny because Wonder Woman is a woman, and Edwards has been made fun of (by people like Limbaugh) as the breck girl or the dumb good looking guy.

There is no joke if he says a male superhero, of which there are many, the majority, in that team. Superman, Batman, Aquaman, the dude with the bow and arrow etc
